It just struck me that this must all be a cheap marketing ploy and Garth Ancier is nothing more than a hapless pawn. Any day now there'll be a live break-in as John Cleese, followed by a camera crew, enters Ancier's office, questions his sanity and then beats the daylights out of him with a ten-day old Codfish.

Cleese will then turn to the camera and apologize to America for the dirty trick, but claim it's fair turn-about for unleashing Britney Spears on an unsuspecting world.

Now THAT would be one to boost the ratings! I'm not a Cleese fan (I still prefer the late Desmond Llewellyn as 'Q'), but I'd have to applaud him for that one...

That's a rather ridiculous rationale for a very poor decision. I generally watch television to be entertained; entertainment including History Channel documentaries and the like in my case. If I want an impression of contemporary Britain I will either visit it or ask my Irish Politics professor, who visits often, about it. Besides, a good picture of modern anywhere has seldom been good at any time worthwhile for anything but satire.

Televisions executives seems to be masters of asinine decisions and artists of contorted logic. If not for a weakness for a few select programs, I would make an apologetic sacrifice to good sense of my television.

It was complications from food born hepatitis.

From the little I've seen about these new shows, they reflect not "modern Britain" but rather "modern uniformish West Amer-European culture".

Which, as several others have pointed out, is just recycled Hollywood and American TV trash with better accents.

It's more globalized mediocracy.

But anyways, maybe now I'll just have to give up entirely if they've taken away Flying Circus and Benny Hill-- as for their "modern" shows, they cancelled the only one I ever watched (Coupling)... *storms out of the room*
