Up for sale is a great, (but too small for me) Simmons Bilt Shinki Horsehide Cafe Racer. I purchased this off ebay, received it today, for sale today due to fit. I would put this as a "small" 42 almost closer to a 40, note it's a bit short overall too. Clean, well kept, Shinki Horsehide is wonderful. Odor free, cotton inner lining, Riri #8 black color main zip, rest of #5 black color zips work well. Unique D-pocket.

Asking $425 net to me shipped CONUS PayPal (Standard only, please)
Will ship International at actual cost

Dimensions:
Shoulders: 18.75"
Pit to Pit: 22.5"
Front length down zipper: 21"
Sleeve Straight: 24.5"
Back Length: 23.5"

Very cool jacket. I plan to go with Simmons on my next custom jacket.

So the jacket was purchased from "Drifter Productions" via ebay and they appear to sell new & pre-owned Simmons Bilt, RRL, and other brands of leather wear. They indicated it was "Shinki" horsehide.

Looking at the Simmons Bilt Website, they have a vast selection of leather offerings. Much more than I realized. They do not technically list "Shinki" rather two different types of "Japan Horsehide" in two colors and teacore or "non teacore".

That's all I know about this. I would rather not go down an endless rabbit hole with it, so @Peacoat @Edward could we now lock this thread since the sale is complete? Thanks.

They seem like a super chill brand, plus their designs are gorgeous. And regardless of what everyone says, the designs are very different from Aero. Take "The Aeromarine" vs. "The Simmons Bilt", for example. Front to back, up and down, the Simmons Bilt is far more stylish. Do I wish that it was available in Natural Chromexcel? Yes, I do, but you can't have everything. Oh, and don't even get me started on the price difference.

And I agree, many of their designs are very cool. The SB I have is well made, no complaints.

The whole copyright infringement thing is super unfortunate. I don’t know how long to hold that against them though

It’s good to know some of their jackets are Shinki.
I certainly didn’t intend my earlier post to infer that I was questioning whether it was true or not. I was simply surprised.

Not at all. I actually missed your earlier post, but didn’t take it that way when I went back and read it. I was surprised too. Just wanted it out there.

I do wish leathers were more specifically labeled. But perhaps it’s just too few of us that care.

For sure. Just the tannery would be cool to know. Some do like to keep that close-hold. I like that Aero & SB provide a handwritten note with at least some of the details.

And for collectors, who the actual maker of the HD, Hercules or Wards was would be most appreciated. Lol.

Yeah, I don’t get the secret thing.

When it’s actually a interest point. Like Viberg talking me into more boots than I need because of this or that leather.

Yet my Aero in Vicenza is a eternal mystery, other than it tanned in Italy.

SB has had Shinki for years. It’s nothing new. If they have one thing going for them, it’s a vast catalog of available hides. The sizing seems to be the trickiest part, as they went from very undersized, to massively oversized at some point in the recent past. The last 44” I had was, for all intents and purposes, a 48” or even a 50”.
