Silly Lipstick Question

I love, love, love red lipstick but whenever I kiss anyone it just gets everywhere. How do gals prevent this, and what about alternatives that wont rub off?? I usually use MAC ruby woo and its the perfect colour.

find the 16 hour/kissproof/nuclear blast surviving ones, they look like lip glosses and have some sort of clear topcoat. can't think of the names off-hand but max factor and revlon make them, and so do other brands. in a meeting at work and have to pretend I'm paying attention. anyway these are tough enough to need to be scrubbed off with your toothbrush at the end of the night

Avoid the CoverGirl OutLast lipstick that has a separate topcoat if you don't want your lips to feel encased in shellac. If you're ok with that, I assure you the stuff won't come off.

I tried one of the shellac type - it still came off in just no time! I guess I'm simply no lipstick person.
(to be honest, my constant nose blowing - due to being allergic to pretty much everything you can imagine - might be a reason... lol )

fftopic: A teaspoon a day of local honey helps allot with my allergies. Have you tried that for some relief?

yes, the cover girl version was awful. the top gloss was thick and gross! MF and Revlon versions are good though

They are pretty good i find. Although i don't use them as i find them a little drying, lipcote is good too, although that makes my lips dry as well. Do you blot your lipstick, i blot and reapply twice usually. Are we talking about just greeting people type of kissing or some serious puckering up, because i just used to take my lipstick off discreetly, do the kissing with the ex-bf, then whip out the compact and reapply, nothing worse than the ex-bf looking like he had been attacked by the bride of dracula! Although in hindsight i wish he had!

yes you have to keep reapplying the top gloss no matter what brand you try

In the old movies, when they'd have a long smooch and the man would come up for air with not a smudge on him, did they cut in between shots so she could put more lippy on and he could tidy up, or was it genuinely bomb-proof?

Yep I was meaning some serious puckering up lol maybe a red lipstain might be better for everyday instead of lipstick??

Thanks for the idea. I tried many things (nothing really worked), but never honey on a regular basis. But tonight, I just had some tea with honey and I'm still sneezing...

I swear by Lipcote. It makes every lippie I own wear like iron, especially a matte lippie like ruby woo. It's a UK product so it should be easy for you to find. It is drying, but so worth it.

I just tried Lipcote for the first time after the rave reviews here and it makes me break out in itchy hives all around my mouth. I wore it for two to three days (with a week's break in between) and really liked it, until the third day each time I started to get super itchy and my skin around my mouth is red and a bit blistered. Not a good look and sooo annoying. But it did work for a few hours, though not all day witout small touch-ups.

It's about building a tolerance for the local pollens. It takes a while to build up in your system.

I line and fill in the entire lip w/ liner and I think it makes a base/stain for the lipstick, put on lipstick and blot, blot, blot, and add another coat of lipstick. It has staying power through cocktails and kisses.
As for the movie smooches, probably just that old movie magic.
Honey for allergies - I've heard the same thing but haven't tried it yet.

My mom has the stuff in as tube that you put on, it dries, then you put a shiny clear coat. I tried it but I do find it dry and rather gritty. It did stay on nicely though. And my brothers would actually let me kiss them on the cheek.
