'Evening ladies and gents! Since getting a job at a local radio station I have started to bring some personal touches to the studio. The main thing I am concentrating on right now is the microphone. The station has obviously supplied us with one that works great, no qualms there, but it just doesn't have any character. None of the listeners can see the mic- I just want something fun for me! (selfish aren't I! :p ) I've been looking around for a Shure 55 model. The 55S was the original in the line, made even more popular because Elvis used it. They are still in production and kept almost to the same specs. Nice to know. The older mics are going for "collectors" prices for the most part. Not unusual to see one in mint or near mint going for $650 and up. A brand new one is anywhere from $160 on up to around $250. I wouldn't mind having an older one but at a decent price. Does anyone know of anywhere to get one? I've checked eBay and there are just a couple on there, but as soon as the time gets close to the line they skyrocket or I happen to be at work and at a point where I can't get back to up my bid. If one is to be had it doesn't have to be in pristine condition as I am also into Ham radio and could repair or refurbish the componants in one if needed. Long story short- any ideas??

Incidently, I guess that there were a couple copycat manufacturers out there at one time or another. I have heard mention of them but that search has turned up absolutely nothing. Anthing of this sort would be appreciated. I always have to come up with the wierd questions don't I!:cheers1:

Thanks!
