I just stumbled across this thread. So many great jackets! I’ve been thinking about getting a new cross zip and had been leaning towards a Vanson C2, but the Columbias posted in this thread are making me think twice!

Here’s my custom Crescent from 2004. I can’t believe it still fits (halfway decently). I added the two chest pockets and leather lined the hand warmer pockets. I initially had them make it with a dress collar but switched to the mandarin collar sometime around 2005. I love the character of the leather (mid weight cow) and it’s extremely comfortable.

Thanks for the input everyone. The jacket arrived and is an awesome
hide, its whole another level for me. The back length is not a problem as I ride upright, but it happens to be too big in the chest and shoulders. The measurement for the pits was incorrect, even though pics were sent. It was not stretched at all, and the leather is quite heavy. It weighed 9 lbs and feels like it. I went for a ride and it was as comfortable as any jacket I have ever owned. I am happy and think it the fit is not that bad as I may need it bigger for my waist, not ever gonna look as good as Carlos in A DR.

Looks like a good fit . Wear it hard and you may be surprised when it stretches/ molds to your body .

I would stick with the C2. You will have it way quicker for less money and it will probably fit better.
I am speaking from the experience of having purchased two custom jackets from Langlitz, two custom jackets from Vanson, and four off the rack from Vanson.
Unless your measurements are way out of the ordinary, off the rack Vanson is the way to go.

Thanks for the advice. I had been planning to go with a C2 because I just went through some extensive measurements with the folks at Vanson to get my sleeve and body lengths correct for my custom Ike. Maybe I’ll just stick with my original plan.

I’ve been thinking more about your C2 recommendation and it made me wonder why Langlitz would have a hard time with the fit on a Columbia. My Crescent and the pants I purchased from them both fit spot on. I have heard certain forum members have had trouble with the fit of their Columbias.

I don’t think it’s a problem with the Columbia specifically, I also had to ask for a remake on the straight zip Cascade they made me. Even when Langlitz takes the measurements themselves at their shop we have seen jackets come out badly that had to be remade.
Nor do I think this problem is unique to Langlitz. I think every maker that tries to go from measurements to create a one off jacket for a customer is prone to mistakes from time to time.
Contrast that with Vanson, who has some of the best stock patterns of any jacket maker anywhere, and I feel you are much more likely to achieve success your first time out just ordering one of their basic styles in your size.
And I don’t mean to come across as a Langlitz hater, two years ago my girlfriend and I rolled through Portland on our way to a wedding and I made sure to stop at Langlitz. We had a wonderful time chatting with a couple of the guys there and we both found jackets on their sale rack to take home.
