I have had this hat 32 years & it was used then. I think i traded a steering wheel for it from a old MontyCarlo .
Yea it sound's sterotypical to me but true...in my case
But when i would Cut the brim to 2'' on a old vintage Fur-Felt hat back then the crease was the same,,but a much taller crown.
Man i cut some great hats back then ... if i only knew better..
even then late 70's early 80's I was in the wrong time zone per the way i dressed by a good 30 years

Hey lets start a vintage stingy thread !

Seabass, growing up in the Bay Area i was in my early 20's in the mid 70's and I remember the lowrider scene. I would see the stingy brims on old school lowrider types. The guys I knew weren't that hardcore, they were in lowrider clubs but wore custom baseball caps and t-shirts. I was into old cars and Harleys, and the Harleys won out. The last couple of years I was at the Santa Maria West Coast Kustoms show and saw lots more folks wearing the stingy brims. Actually that's where I first heard the term. They seem to be growing in popularity. I've got too big a head to wear a small brim.

Well I don't like myself in a stingy so as soon they come in they get sold....

Here is a Brooks Brothers made by Herbert Johnson in England that I have but hasn't been sold yet, guess I been slacking off in the selling department.....

Absolutely gorgeous felt and lid.....

Keep Em Coming !
And consider this a great gift for a young un is a Vintage Stingy.
Why ?
Plentyful in Tiny Sizes & fit & look Good on a smaller head.
Well made, Real fur-felt, Real Milan not plastic. Real Leather Sweats.
Kids can grow into em
& can be bought at a fraction of a modern cheep quality S,M,L only sizes.
Cooler look overall & maybe a change in some kid's esteem & appreceation of better made things:cool:

My two favorite stingies are my vintage Resistols.

This is the Gotham I, according to the tag, in Orbit grey. Came with the pin and the feather, which I kept on. Was surprised to find a Cav edge when it arrived, which is a nice touch.

The other was this Florentine Milan:

As it originally was from ebay.

After a reflange and a new ribbon by the gals at Paul's hat works.

Both were ebay scores for less than $20!

Fine Examples ! Of Vintage Stingys, Is the Resistol a Kitten Finish? Some of my fave Vintage Stingys were Resistol's Kitten Finish hats.
The Ladies at Pauls Are very nice & Cutie's too.... i used to go there as a kid & have the past owner cut down some wide vintage brims for me many moons ago
because stingys were in & i liked the taller crowns of the older 40's & early 50's Hats.. and they were plentyful at the thrift stores in San Francisco & Oakland/Berkeley.
Nice Milan i love the straight sides now & ribbon ! & pics

For a while I had a Stetson 20 with a 2 inch stingy brim.
Don't believe I ever wore it outside the house before consigning it to eBay.

Quite a nice hat, but the short brim wasn't working for me.
