Beautiful dress, de-stressed! I agree that knitting has a cleaner look to it, but personally I find crochet to be faster. Both my kids wore christening gowns made from the train of my mother's wedding dress. Is this a Catholic tradition? I assumed every baby wore them! [huh] But then, thinking about it, not everyone knows the term "christening" either; "baptism" is more popular.

That's a cool tradition, not one that I was familiar with. And as far as I knew, a christening and a baptism were two separate events. At least they are in the tradition I am familiar with.

O my goodness, where did you find this pattern? Its adorable! I'm working on a cardigan with a shawl collar right now. I'm almost done! I have one more sleeve to complete and the actual collar. Then I can piece it together (my least favourite part). I love knitting and crocheting. I find it really relaxing.

Does anyone know the full name or author of the 1940's crochet encylopeida? I have seen it a few times on ebay but know that I fave decided that I should get it I can't find.

I'm so glad to have finished this 30s sweater. Please excuse the bra peeping through the sweater, I surely wouldn't wear it like that in public.

Amie - Beautiful work! The color is great and I especially love the buttons and top of sleeve treatment. One plus-side to cooler weather is I feel like picking up my needles again!

Thanks so much ladies.

The yarn I used was caron's soft bamboo cotton blend, size 3, hook 4. Believe it or not, I got it from Michaels and buttons came from Joann fabrics. The pattern is from Clarks Crocheted Dresses #61. The pattern itself is called "Weekend."

Hey everyone,
Your projects are amazing; great sweaters ladies!

I recently picked up knitting, mastered the cast on, knit, purl and bind. That’s about it for now! Making a scarf as we speak, then on to something more fun. I have oodles of 40s/50s patterns.

And…I can’t remember if I posted this here or not: the V&A museum has 40s knitting patterns avail for download here. Apologies if I already posted it!

Totally adorable, Amie! I have a few knitting patterns from the 30s and they often seem to be held at the shoulders with buttons - so cute.

Kate thank you so much. You're so sweet to think about me. Take all your time because you know as well as I how long these hand knit/crochet projects can take and I've a couple I haven't finished yet that I desperately need to tend to.

It's not quite within the scope of this board, but since I'm such a slow knitter, I just had to share. The pattern is based on a 19th knitting pattern
