The Brisbane Building, home to the Kleinhans Company noted above, was built in 1894-96 on property formerly occupied by the Arcade. The Arcade, destroyed by fire in 1893, likely housed John Emig's business which sold this top hat circa 1860.

Above is the 6th & Vine location. They moved there after being in Walnut St. since 1907 (the contemporary arts center is there now).

He charges $350 for a custom and it takes about 2-3 weeks until he calls you to come get it. We didn't discuss anything like extras for brim binding or anything and I don't think he charges more for anything else He didn't use a conformer, but I really don't need it. I'm a pretty true 7 1/4, and it fit great right away. When I went to pick it up, he was concerned about the fit, so I got the impression he would have tweaked it a bit if it needed it.

I think I would be a true 7 1/4 if it weren't for the weird lumps im my forehead. I would hope they correspond to overdeveloped frontal lobes, if I didn't know I was kidding myself. [emoji2]

Found this 1962 pic of the Walgreens that replaced the original store with a Hatterie billboard on it. The Hatterie was a couple of doors down in the Quaker Oats building, but had moved to the Main St. location by this time.

No tags or labels to tell us more, but the liner with simple credit "BHV Paris" must tie it to Le Grand Bazar de l'Hôtel-de-Ville. Thinking back to my room of hats, those that were sold from a store still open today could be counted on one hand. Maybe half a hand...
