This is my daily driver. It's a '99 Silverado I bought a few years ago, when my back was in such bad shape I couldn't get in and out of a car anymore...

This is one of the main reasons I bought my '07 Honda Ridgeline after my back problems became more chronic in 2005. Getting in and out of my car wasn't much of a problem, but the seats in it (and most passenger cars) were so low/close to the floor that I found myself sitting with my legs mostly stretched out in front of me while I was driving regardless of how I adjusted the seat, which was putting too much strain on my lower back. The higher seats (and extra headroom) in my truck allow me to sit in a more natural upright position which is far more comfortable and allows me to drive for longer periods of time.

I had a 1978 GMC pickup that if it was shut off while hot would occasionally refuse to crank until it sat for a few minutes. Turn the key and nothing happened. Wait a few minutes and it would start normally. Nobody could ever find the reason for it. I learned after one experience to never shut it off at railroad crossings, etc.

A tiny update on my Royal Enfield, Gunpowder: I have swapped out the turn indicators for something a bit more vintage looking (someday perhaps I'll go whole-hog and install vintage Guide B-31 pieces), installed a faux-vintage taillamp (Model T-style housing with a '37 Ford lens), and traded my stock bench seat for a sprung saddle. I'm still fiddling around with it trying to get it to start and the electricals to function predictably. New tires, new grips, and lots of black enamel are still on the agenda.

Was digging though tubs of loose old photos trying to find the pics I took in 1996 of my 1964 Volkswagen 21-Window Deluxe Sunroof Microbus (which I hope to have sold this week) when I pulled it out of the barn it had been in since 1981.

Original owners on the right. Me (or Barney the dinosaur) on the left.

This was one of several Busses I had when I bought the one above. Sold all the others. I liked this one's ghost sign.

Prior to these I was driving a '77 VW Bus.

We were so poor (with three kids) that we took a job delivering phone books.

I traded this '57 Cadillac Sedan de Ville to my Dad for the '77 Bus (note that the bus has the Caddy's vanity plate).

Before that I drove a '73 Chevy Suburban (454). Not great mileage when taking the kids on vacation.

Wow, is the Caddy still in the family somewhere?

I had a '79 Chevy Suburban (black & silver) 454 with 411 tow pkg. It would only get 11 mpg no matter whether it was empty or pulling a trailer. I was glad it didn't have the 456 tow pkg.

No. Dad sold it to a guy in our VW club (who was very adept at bodywork). He grafter the bumper onto a VW Bus and smoothed/shaved/lowered the Caddy as a custom.

Yes, but not active any longer. That is where I advertised the Bus. I was a founder of our local VW club (G.R.O.O.V.E) in the early 1990s and was the local NEATO rep.

What engine is under the hood?
Will you be modifying the engine for today’s highway speeds
or it won't be necessary?

The 85HP straight six in this machine
can properly the car at 80, though it us much happier at 50 or 55. If I was planning to regularly drive it on the interstate I'd want to put in a Miller or Borg Warner overdrive.

We do such frivolity on a smaller scale in the UK, I actually owned one of these cars in the early 1980's. Not with the like for like trailer though.

British licence plates changed in the year 2000, they now have two letters, two digits and three letters. The first two letters denote which part of the country the vehicle is registered to, the rest is simply permutations. This driver contrived to make the number eleven into a double 'L' with amusing effect:
