This Carholm Jakarta Crepe will get a little time in the sun today.

Looking good Michael, sunshine and a tie, not a regular sight these days. I have to admit I do like to wear a floral shirt, open neck, when the sun comes out, but I do like to wear a tie as well.

Yesterday I wore this tie that depicts scenes from the Moulin Rouge, by the artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. It's a tie that I've had for decades, and often, when wearing it, I get asked where I bought it, did I want to sell it. That is so irritating. The answer is that an uncle gave it to me when I was about 13 or 14, I have no idea of it's history, it's made of silk and it's not for sale.
Maybe it was very popular once because I saw a replica advertised back in the early 1990's.

If there's one tie in my collection that is my default choice, it would be this one. My wife came across it at a stall at a festival some years ago. It's dated 1937 and why I like it so much is because it's so well made. It ties well, the fabric has never worn, frayed or faded and it compliments most of my suits. It would have had more impact in this photo if we hadn't been photobombed by Hercules, but we don't mind, after all, he was in charge of our carriage on that day.

I enlarged my Amana made tie collection by two today.

I think these are a newer make than some I have. One still has the original hang tag on it.

By Amana I take it that's Amana Iowa, unless it's some tiny atol in the Pacific Ocean where they make superb ties. Probably started by a Scotsman who hit upon an idea from his native tartan. Really lovely tie that.

Yes, Amana Iowa. They've had a woolen mill there since around 1860. It is still in operation as the only woolen mill in Iowa. I think only a shadow of what it was in it's heyday. And it was actually started by religious refugees from Germany. Ha ha. I don't know for sure that the neckties are directly associated with the mill. They do make a nice tie over there, whoever it is. Someday I'll have to pull together the whole collection and get a photo.

This tie wears well and has a deliberate understated look about it. Like most of my ties it's made of silk but with a strong lining stiffener. It ties well and holds it's shape.

Thanks Dale. I was almost shocked to see hat green/optic yellow/gold (it varies a lot by light source and viewing angle) color. I don't think I've seen anything near it in vintage stuff before.
