The first Rooster tie from the lot is 75% wool and 25% Dacron Polyester. It's gray with yellow, green, and red stripes in three different arrangements. Definitely from the early 60's due to its skinny width, materials, and label.

Rooster became a company in 1957, but wasn't a registered trademark until 1969. This means the label won't have an (R) symbol next to the Rooster logo if the tie was made between 1957-1968.

Found this great "Mr. John" Beau Brummell at Goodwill recently. Looks like 1970s vintage. "Mr. John" was John Harberger, primarily a hat designer. He designed the hats worn in many classic films and in the early 70s he also designed ties. This one was originally sold by Newton's in Washington NJ but I've not been able to find any information on that store.

No luck at Goodwill today. I'm posting this instead.
Bought this tie from a visit I made a few weeks ago. It's self-tipped and retains its original barcode.
Got it for $3.99 (I wish tie prices were better over here...).

This is an interesting one. Modern tie, but the colors and patterns all scream 30's. Definitely one of the coolest modern ties I've ever seen. Good find!

I’m a bit curious as to whether these spectacularly narrow bow ties existed as a self-tie or if they were all pre-tied clip ons.

They appear to be very skinny batwing bow ties, but I haven’t found a self-tied version that makes a bowtie that narrow. Seems like you’d need stiff material to prevent the bow tie from drooping.

Every tie of this cut I've seen was a clip-on, so I'd assume this conclusion. I don't like the square-end bowties that much, I fancy the diamond-shaped ones.

Actually, I've seen dozens of skinny batwing bow ties as self-tie available online. Would you have guessed the one below is actually self-tie?

Sometimes, I like the simplicity of batwing bow ties. But of course, diamond tip bow ties are still the best kind of bow tie! :D

You're probably right about that, Upgrade. The one I own feels stiff, but the middle is slighty shaped. This lets me tie a nice knot.

One of my first vintage bow ties from when I was entering the world of vintage menswear.

I think the pattern is excellent for a skinny batwing.
What I love most it's the fact the tie is reversible!
Let me explain:
Look closely at the ribbed silk. The woven lines are horzontal on one side. Flip the tie, and the lines are vertical!
A very neat detail on each side if you ask me. ;)

I stand corrected. I'm not a fan of the style, but it's good to see these weren't just limited to cheap clip-ons, the ones that plague the vintage bowtie scene on eBay and in brick and mortar shops.

I say this one's my boldest tie.
It has a background that resembles brush strokes; imitating a hand painted look.
There are Green, Peach, and Forest Green color leaves. The knot area is all Forest Green, but it looks darker in the pics.
In great condition!
