Is that Adrian as in Gilbert Adrian the film costume designer? I believe he designed ties. I will have to search to see if i can find his label.

Yes it is. Here's a link to another example: https://www.chairish.com/product/73916/rare-gilbert-adrian-designer-silk-tie

I believe these are quite collectable.

And THIS is a fine example of why this is a such a great thread! (The occasional temptation to disregard that commandment about coveting thy neighbors stuff aside.)
Good eye, Two Types. Thanks for contributing that. I didn't nab a rare and collectible tie, but I learned something, and that's worth plenty too.

MelancholicNostalgic -- thanks for the larger photos! I really like the '40s Manhattan.
RS -- you are coming up with some gold in them thar thrifts!
DH -- nice Wembley -- I'd love to have that one.
Two Types -- thanks for the education on Adrian. Something else to watch for.

That's quite interesting. I got the tie for 50 cents, and I thought that it was newer than the 50s (as it is thicker than other vintage ties, but nowhere as thick as modern ties.) Shame it's all wrinkled though.

I guess I should keep watch for other Adrian ties! :)

Anyone know anything about the illegible tie? :p

The First Vintage Tie I Ever Purchased

Thanks again everyone for the compliments on my previous set of photos, and for you patience as I figured out setting up the larger photos.

Here's the first vintage tie I ever purchased. A late '50's, no tags.

It has a very interesting weave that gives off a really unique rusty bronze colour.

I love those ties with the little designs in the center! Nice find! :)

Today, I found another tie at the thrift store.

I'm not sure of the brand. It says Davidson on it, which I think is the Family name of the Tartan. It is 56" long, and 3" wide. I'm guessing it's 70s or 80s, but I could be wrong.

MelancholicNostalgic that's a real beauty. I love those space age shimmery sharkskin ties with the simple little design. Very sleek and classy!

Retro that's a nice plaid. Looks really good with those slacks you're wearing.

Found this Manhattan hand painted at the thrifty this afternoon. It's got what looks to be a pretty bad cigarette burn, but since vintage hand painted ties at the thrift store are scarce as hen's teeth, and it was only $2, I snagged it anyway.
