Hello guys!

I made a discovery the other day. Seems one of the ties I recently obtained is the same design as one featured on the cover of this book:

That iconic palm tree motif...I have yet to see a tie in a book that I have in my collection; close, but not exactly.

Then, this Saturday, at an antique extravaganza I hit a small motherload. Got about two dozen for around $5 total!!

You're killing me, Gene! I have never matched that. What a score!:eusa_clap Heads up on that Picasso one; it is likely worth a lot more than what you paid. Picasso's are rare.

Yeah, it's funny; when I started rummaging through the basketful of ties the vendor had on the ground, I thought I heard him say, "Ties are a dollar." Turned out he had said, "Five for a dollar." !!!

Today I'm wearing my Wilson Bros. Faultless Magic Gold tie, c.mid-'50s, which I believe was my first hand-painted. I've got six of these "splatter" ties, all in different colors, and by different makers.

I've been tempted lately to buy some plain silk thrift store ties and paint on them in that old style. Not to try to pass them off as real vintage but just to see if I could swing-it, art-wise...

Like a lot! I've wondered if the California companies that made these hand-painted ones just gave artist/employees free reign on what to paint on them.

They probably did have free reign on subject matter, especially the more famous artists.

Here's today's tie, c.late-'50s, acetate. I don't usually wear pink, but I think the contrast with the black is pretty good, and I like the motif.
