Show us your TIES

Went a little crazy on ebay. Got all five from the same seller.
I'm assuming all 1940's/1950's?

If the price was right for you then you did just fine. I like the National tie and the rest just fine. :D

Thank ya, thank ya.

Phebus, nice find. I like the 2 Towncraft and the National ties the best. Yeah, without the widths and lengths, I'd say the one Towncraft and National are 40's and the others early to mid 50's. I'm not sure about the hand-painted one. . . heck, I'm not even sure what the image is?:p

Others can chime in too, but I think the 49"/50" place them around 1950+- and the 53"s around 1954+. The hand-painted it wide, so I wonder if it isn't a "tall man's" variety. I got one of those from the 30's once.

It ain't no dream! It is a living nightmare! You need come up here so I can show you The World's Largest Outdoor Insane Asylum. :eeek:

I'm not sure your area can lay claim to that title. Have you seen Atlanta natives try to drive in rain / sleet / snow? This morning's commute was interesting, to put it mildly, and the weather hasn't really turned bad yet.

Fantastic ties Annixter and Widebrim. I have that book (as do most here I suspect) and have a couple of ties like ones featured in it. Whenever I run across one I feel like I have found the holy grail or something.

Well, one of the authors of said book was trying to sell his tie collection for something like $10,000 if I remember correctly. :p You could have the whole thing for a mere bag of shells. :p

I haven't looked through the book lately to see if I've acquired any other from it, but I agree that at this point in my collecting life I feel like I've found a rare jewel if the tie is featured in the book. I hope to one day resolve this issue when I have a handful of Dali's. :D

On a semi-serious note, I'm not sure how I'd feel about buying an entire collection. A large part of my joy in collecting and wearing ties is the process of scrounging, bartering, and reflecting on all the random places I've been in search of ties--from Mariposa, CA, to Buffalo, NY, to Toronto, Canada. That being said, if I had 10 grand burning a hole in my bank account, I might be convinced to purchase a huge collection.:p

Here are some links to pictures of ties and a tie clip I recently bought. The pictures are very big. I don't know the widths of the first two, exactly, but I assume these are all shorter than 55 inches, especially the first one. I've put off buying some nice looking ties made prior to the '50s, because of the lengths being shorter then, but I don't mind that anymore. I wear somewhat lower rise pants in general, but I just have the back part of the tie even higher than it may have originally been worn.

Also bought this mid-century tie clip by Swank, and I think I own another plus cufflinks by that company too.
