Easy enough. You'll soon be able to do it with you eyes closed.

:D

Thanks for the video, James! I've now learnt how to do a perfect Windsor knot!

^^Congratulations on the cache' of neckties, Shangas; I particularly like the school commemoration and the two-tone silver-gray (grey for you of the British Commonwealth) ones. On my job, I had always worn neckties on and off, but when I started actually collecting neck apparel, it gave me more impetus. Now if I go for more than a day without one, students and staff notice...

Thanks, WideBrim. I love them. I doubt my brother will ever want them back, so now they're mine. These aren't ALL his ties though. He's still got a dozen or more which I left in his closet. They're horrible colours! Two pink ones, one blue white and black striped one...I better stop before I feel sick. Horrible ties that nobody in their right mind would ever wear.

I selected the ones that I did because I think they're universal ties - You can wear them with a variety of outfits and colours without looking weird or misnatched, clashing or out of place.

Mannnn, tell me you found those in Detroit and not London. I've never been able to find anything remotely close to that when I hit the thrifts in town. :(

Just won these.

I don't know if it is possible to do with fabric, but those look exactly like the kind of pattern you'd get out of Ebru (Turkish water-marbling)

I never find any vintage ties, and when I do, I can't date them.

How old do you think this is? The middle part of the tie is actually reinforced with silk satin. The smaller end has a self edge.

Black and white jacquard.

Haven't run into a tie this dark coloured yet!

How would I distinguish a 20's and a 30's necktie? Material? I believe this is rayon.

Man, European ties are sooo difficult in this era (20s-early 50s). They all seem to be the same length, same kinds of fabric, same construction, same widths. NOTHING seems to have changed in 30 years or so.

That reinforcement is certainly a sign of age, but how much? Only the vintage Gods know.

All you can hope for with European vintage ties is a label with a time-distinguishing typeset.

p.s. Everyone: there's some GREAT stuff in London vintage markets.
