I've wondered if this Wembley design was an inspiration for Chicago's Sear's Tower a couple decades later...

^^Man, Quigley, where do you find all these dual prints? Wembley certainly had some solid early designs.

Just over the years I've found them at the usual places: thrift stores and yard sales. In my twenty-plus years of collecting I've only purchased one tie off of ebay. That was early when they were actually cheap.

You certainly went back on this thread to find these shots... ;)

I'm playing a little catch up on the thread. That double shot of you cracked me up.

I picked up a vintage tie last week that I plan to use for when I'm out swing dancing, a classic 40's type design. I'm having it cleaned - though I'm not sure how clean it will get. But I'll wear it anyway since I really like the design, and when one is swing dancing, one doesn't sweat the small stuff. I'll post an image of it once I get it back.

This is my first vintage tie purchase, to be used mainly when out at night swing dancing and having a good time. No labels on the back. It was in the 1940's tie box at the place I got it, though I guess it's hard to tell without any ID. It sure looks and feels 40's. There is a stain on the bottom flower that apparently can't be removed, but I was mentally prepared for that and not really concerned about it - I'll wear it all the same.

I'd say it actually mid-1950s judging by the width (less than the wide-40s and more than the thinner late-50s) and a simpler design (I've seen many designs from that era featuring 'mirrored' shapes on them). The fabric is that period, but I don't know what it is. I think Widebrim would know it, though. :)

Well, it looks like a rayon/acetate blend, although it could be all rayon. It appears to have too much "body" to be 100% acetate, though. And you're right, QB, about c.mid-'50s. --Nice tie, Tommy!
