Do pawn shop purchases count? While running about town on errands with my older brother, we stopped at my storage so that I could pay my bill. Across the street is a pawn shop. Mark went in to look for a Konica, and I went in after paying my storage. I found a Hasselblad 500C with 80mm lens and a 120 back. The tag was asking for $649.00. I asked if they could do better, and they accepted $550.00. It is currently awaiting repair, as the shutter only operates with neither lens nor back attached. One or the other isn't good enough, both must be off. The lens also needs work. I didn't get a fantastic deal, but I got a good one.

I am so mad at my local Goodwill...:rage: They recently raised the prices of thier LPs from 75 cents to $1.65. Isn't that rediculous? I've lived in this town for over eight years and LPs were the one item in the store that never changed price and I've bought hundreds. Now the price has more than doubled over night! I've never heard on any item anywhere that that's happened to. I wrote them a lengthy email last night and told them I expect an answer.

I sympathise, QB, I really do - I hate when things hike in price like that - but seeing as it's goodwill, you can't really begrudge them the extra 90 cents can you? I mean, 75c is awful cheap to begin with.

I just noticed you live in Frederick. Ever been to the British shop there? Ever tried Marmite? I believe they sell it. :D

Jammies

Two pair blue/red piping, darker blue/light blue piping 2x size cotton/poly jammies, grey felt "de Sind" fedora "extra large" (me keppers takes say a 7 5/8), tiny mothing, good beater - total $15.00. Costumer's blowout sale.
Empty Higgins inkwell/bottle fifty cents. Simple rectangular gold tone tie clasp one dollah merican.

What's ironic is that another thrift shop a few blocks a way recently dropped the price of their LPs from a buck to a quarter.

Yes, that Brit shop is just a half a block down the street from me. Never tried Marmite, but you've now got my curiousity up....

I picked up this old framed print yesterday, any ideas on the age?

CherryRed, that's such a pretty frame! I'd bet the print was done in the 30's of a much older painting--looks 1770ish to me.

Not strictly vintage, but I found a great vintage styled sweater at a thrift shop yesterday. I paid $6. It's milk chocolate brown wool with a button off "mink" collar. There's ribbing on the sides and on the bell sleeves--very pretty. Made by Willi Smith. I remember seeing him on talk shows in the late 80's before his early death. I had to lighten the picture to show the details (and the photo still turned out lousy!).

Nice find Kim! Thrift shops are usually a good place to find vintage shoes and clothing. I found a nice pair of vintage oxblood cap-toes at the local Goodwill store, in my size for only $6.00. They fit perfectly, which was amazing considering my shoe width. Will you be wearing yours to Trains & Troops? Hey, that's only three weeks away!

I have been trying to make up my mind. Believe it or not I found another pair of Florsheims at a church rummage sale Friday in dark brown that look real good. And I have the brown & white pair I wore at the Ike Farm...OH MY GOSH, I am becoming my Daughter!

Keep a space open for the 36 there, I have a crazy idea I’ll email you about.

Sometimes I'll by old LPs just for the cover art, but this one I purchased yesterday was a double treat...both great cover (a bit sexist, though ;) ) and some cool jazz. I'm guessing by the bullett whatchmacallits that the record is circa late 50s/early 60s.

I picked up a pair of these for $18 yesterday at my favorite thrift. I've been wanting some deco vanity lights for so long, and these are perfect! :)

And a pair to boot! Just amazing! I've never seen anything like them before. Beautiful. I'm so glad they went to a good home where they will be loved!

And that price is just insane. Well done!

Does free count? They were throwing these away at my volunteer position. I snagged them so quickly, heads were spinning.

Those are great! I keep hoping to locate some old mannequins but no luck so far. (Not from ebay)

I was driving by a yardsale this afternoon and decided to stop for a moment.

I found a 4-drawer plan file (the big one) for $25.00, a two-drawer file cabinet for $10.00, an embroidered glasses case for $0.50, an unused wooden tub of Caldwell & Massey sandlewood shaving soap for $0.50, and a driver in perfect condition for $10.00.
I was driving the Thunderbird so I'm going back to pick them up in the morning.

While I was there, I asked the lady if she had any old hats for sale. She didn't but showed me a very old hat that was her grandfathers. It was a Stetson Open Road that had been in a hatbox for decades. The hat must be 50 or 60 years old and is a very small size, perhaps 6 1/2. It was pretty badly moth-eaten but I enjoyed seeing the hat and talking with her about her grandfather. I believe she said she has a picture of him wearing the hat as well. Pretty neat.

Well, these are newer mannequins, not old, and have a couple minor problems. But I have no complaints.

Very cool about the garage sale and don't forget to share pics!

I always like to chat with people if they don't mind. Somehow, my purchases seem to mean more if I can bring something about the family home with me.

I went to a "Flea Market" at a church this AM, mostly odds and ends people don't want anymore, but there was an old Lady Schick hard bonnet hair dryer for $3, but as I have two soft bonnet dryers I passed on it. I did pick up a copy of Better Homes and Garden Handyman's Book for 25 cents! I'm really looking forward to sitting down and reading it.

I also went to an Estate Sale and got three hats that I will post in another thread, but I did see two old trunks, the kind used for long voyages that have drawers on one side and hangers on the other. One had 'drawers' that pivoted open with 'lids' instead of sliding open like regular drawers. The leather handles were shot, and they were dusty as all get out, but they only wanted $20 bucks each! And they had the hangers etc with them!! Everything goes on 1/2 price Sunday, but I don't even think I can justify getting one for $10. What would I do with it?? Maybe I can hide it in the basement and figure that out later... lol

Those books have a wealth of info in them... particularly the old Reader Digest how to books too, though not as old.

The last auction I went to had several old chests and trunks too. I actually went out of my way to get one that was in rougher shape.... why? Because hidden inside which no one else knew about was a bunch of hats!
The hats ended up not being the greatest, but I just had to gamble, you know?

In any event, I'm currently restoring the chest into a nicer presentable condition. I only put $10 into it, so I figure I did okay either way.
