Thanks, fellas. I didn't get such a screamin' deal as Gene got on his (15 bucks, fer cryin' out loud), and I doubt it's of the same quality (neither teak nor walnut, as best I can tell), but it's the real McCoy and it has great style and who knows when another at all like it will pop up again, at any reasonable price.

I love it when good things come to good people. Put that intention out there and the results can be surprising. Very nice piece, Tony. $400 - $700 is the range I've seen for one of those.

Among my favorite aphorisms (many of which are kinda inane if not downright annoying; just ask my lovely bride) is that while seeking is no assurance of finding, you rarely find if you don't seek. The trick (here comes another of those mantras) is to enjoy the hunt. More often than not my thrift store/junk shop/garage sale prowlings are fruitless, but it's still fun. At the very least I come away with a better sense of what sorts of swag are likely to be found where, and that's of some value.

Yep. I can't believe that someone would toss this but they did. There are a lot of people out there that look at vintage items as being simply 'old.'

Contrast New Hampshire with what happens out here in Washington State, where houses built before 1950 or so are often considered old. The flip side is that due to its relative scarcity, old stuff is accorded a higher value than it might in other, more long-settled locales.

Gosh, it was a heck of a weekend for thrifting. I just brought everything in from the car and took some photos, so here goes.

For 8.00, I couldn't pass up this Rockwell. It's beautiful and the frame and matting is fantastic.

Ernie, the guy selling this radio works with me and says he has some others he'll cut me a deal on!

I've always been a big fan of this set. They're fairly common and come up at the antique shops a lot. They just usually have antique shop prices, so I don't buy them. I found all of these at the Goodwill in Portage for .39 a piece and couldn't break the set up. Unfortunately, they told me that someone had come in and grabbed the gravy boat and some other pieces. I will be looking out for them now, though.

If anyone decides to come over for dinner, I'll no longer have to serve them off my 'daily driver' McCoy Brown Drip set.
