At Last!

After missing the Louge for a while and well into my fifth year of thrift shopping, I finally surpassed my swell '50s suit finds and purchased a '40s gem! And from the very same thrift shop where most of my early finds came from.

Makes me very pleased to have just gotten a navy summer hat!

Sitting down to finally share a suit worthy of the Lounge... oops, wrong word processing device!

"Hm, I don't recognize that union label..."

The double-breasted jacket's cut caught my eye, and looking up this label in Dinerman's guide (thanks to the 21st century for giving us iPhones and cell towers!) made me certain I wanted it. But no trousers with it... until, of course, I went to look at another rack and the blue-and-black pattern instantly caught my eye, and the button fly confirmed I was looking at something truly classic. So luckily, I reunited the split up suit, and after checking for a vest (there was none there), I gleefully bought it for $7.

I can hardly believe that this suit is, as best I know, around 70 years old. It has NO moth nibbles, sweat stains, rips, fading, or anything. It fits as though it were tailored for me, and leaves me wishing for more high-waisted pants that fit like these! All in all, this suit made my week (and I've been having a very good week!)

There's so much to catch up with here, I don't know where to begin. Nick D, your homemade masterpiece reminds me of all that is great about this place. Looking forward to seeing more!

Why do they do that!!! LOL

I LOVE the cut of that jacket, it is definitely of the period. Nice find

Cross posted from the gents' Show us What You Made thread. Not vintage, but made using all vintage patterns, which I modified. Partly based on a vintage silk suit shared by Baron Kurtz, I also added a pleated belt back. 100% linen, jacket and waistcoat are both skeleton lined. I wore this to a wedding in Pennsylvania last weekend, it was in the 80s and 90s and I was perfectly comfortable.

3 piece suit
Dated 2-1-1945
Just purchased it for what I consider to be a steal. 150
It is all around my size. No alterations needed. Fits like a glove.

Great find Damian. To be honest I would prefer this suit to a lot of fancy smancy holy grail stuff. It would get a lot of wear.

I totally agree. I find that of all my vintage suits, my two favorites are a simplest; a medium blue serge DB from the 40s and a charcoal gray SB 3-piece from the 30s. I wear them all the time.

I like bells and whistles, I want the sport suits no one makes anymore so I'd have to protest against that.I do agree on the simple suit but I would wear the hell out of the fancy smancy holy grail stuff. I'm wearing a belt back with saddle pockets as we speak, and I'm not going anywhere. It would not be hidden away in a closet for a "special" occasion.

But again I do agree on the simplicity of my 3 piece. The trousers are high and the vest is short, something I've been wanting for a while.
The wool is the scratchy kind of wool that according to the seller the whole suit is a summer suit but I doubt it. Are Denver Summers cooler?
It is more of a fall spring suit.
