Just got this today and I absolutely love the way it looks. It has vertical black threads on charcoal base with subtle blue horizontal lines of color. It had the 1949 - 1962 union label.
It has two problems: It smells like smoke, and the biggest problem - it's too small for me. Shoot!
I took some measurements and I think it comes out to around a 40 and I wear a 42. So close!

Bought this one yesterday. No union tag, don't know when to date it. Late 1930s, early 1940s? The trouser photo shows the color fairly accurately.

Mwell, turns out that brown DB suit is just too large for me. I could have it taken in but I think it would take too much effort and money to do well. :( So it'll be going to the classifieds eventually.

Here are some better pics.

Thanks chaps. I just wish it fit! The colour is more a fawn-ish brown - darker brown with grey-ish cream stripes. This is a better indication of the shade. I'll be selling both of those above soon, too.

BK: That grey tweed suit is magnificent.

very versatile color. A perfect suit that you can wear anywhere

Very good! Great to see it arrived safe and sound - and even fits you as it is. Did you choose the shirt and tie deliberately to resemble Bullitt's on the photo?;)

(The color of the waistcoat looks different from the suit - but of course it's just the photo, as it is obviously made from the same fabric.)

1936 3 piece summer weight suit, originally owned by W.C. Bullitt.

Bullitt was the first US Ambassador to the Soviet Union (1933-36) and then France (1936-40), witnessing the German invasion.

So that's who bought the suit. It was in my Etsy watch list forever, and no sooner than I decided to pull the trigger I noticed it had sold!

I was trying my best Bullitt look ;) I think he carries the suit off better than I. The waistcoat is a tad lighter then the jacket and trousers.

Gutter, sorry my friend!! :D
