Absolutely right, Ghost. Suit jackets of the '40s (beginning in the late '30s) were longer.

I like my own jackets slightly longer than those of the early to mid-'30s, which tended to be shorter than those made today.

The jackets of the '40s are just a bit too long for my body, I think.

I actually prefer the early shorter jackets- I notice that Cagney, Bogart, Duke of Windsor, and many other shorter celebrities wore their jackets short to make themselves look taller. I actually was looking at a picture of a tallish-looking gent wearing a cream or white suit hanging up behind someone's desk the other day and didn't realize it was Bogie until I was about 6 inches away from it. A well cut suit can do a lot for you.
Edit: I have a Brooks Bros. jacket from when I was 13 or 14, and I've grown just enough to fill it out. It's on the short side, even though the sleeves and shoulders fit (they were too big to begin with), and people always ask if it's vintage. I actually get the most compliments wearing that jacket, too.

I just thought about that rat pack song:

"I couldn't feel better or I'd be sick!"

I got the suit and it's just great! It fits perfect, except the being a bit too short, but they can be let out!

Here are the first pics:

Looks great! Much better on you than with the ruffled shirt.. You certainly look happy, too! I'm a little confused as to what is going on with your collar and bow-tie in the first few pictures, though...

(maybe get some button-braces and sew buttons into the waistband ?)

It already has the buttons, but I don't have button-braces yet! I'll sure buy some!

The collar is just pretty stiff and it's also a bit to tight. That may be the reason.

Henrik!

Those are the J.Crew Ruggeds. I'll get them resoled soon, because the sole really bothers me! But beside that they're the greatest and most comfortable boots I ever owned.

Henrik!

Aha! I thought they looked a little like Indy boots... I would recommend a pair of dark brown or burgundy dress shoes to go with the suit. Work boots have their place in one's wardrobe, but I think they look a little aloof with the suit.

Tailoring in the Colonies

Here's an interesting piece of colonial tailoring from the (probably) early 40s. Someone just found this for me in Australia. Absolutely mint mint mint condition. No staining anywhere! $60 AU ($45 US). It is very heavyweight wool and very badly suited to the Aussie climate. The fabric is exactly like the CC41 fabric i've felt. Probably bespoke, even though the fabric is not matched at the shoulders. The buttonholes are very nicely hand done. A pretty standard blue multi-stripe DB suit with some interesting features. Absolutely no markings.

Only one lapel has a buttonhole. Nicely backward leaning shouder seams. And roped? shoudlers.

The trousers feature double pleats: One faces the (button) fly, the other points back towards the side pockets. There are side adjuster belts and the single back pocket seems to be smiling: this is not sagging, it is intentional.
