It for those cold winter months up in the mountains where it can get down to the low 70s or even the high 60s ;)

Serious, thanks for the compliments, its really the nicest suit I own now. My actual plan is that I'm not going to live in Hawaii forever so I pick up really nice suits as I can (budget allowing). That way I'll have a complete wardrobe together for when I leave. Or at least that my justificaion for my small collection :p

I really do not have any suits that are vintage but the modern type suits I have go well with the Dobbs fedora hats that I own. :)

Only picture I have on hand, but this is my favorite suit.

Double Breasted wool-cashmere blend. It has some outrageously high thread count that I don't exactly remember, but the result is it's really light and comfy. I've had 2 suits made here in Korea and this is my favorite of the 2 by a long shot.

No special features to speak of. More or less just a standard modern BD.

Geat suit/hat combo mark...got a real "Mad Men" look going. The fedora is a perfect match!

Thanks Wineguy! I just picked up a gray shark skin Joseph abboud suit yesterday and it goes even better with the dobbs hat. :) I will have some photos are at a lest a video with it very soon

I didn't think this deserved an individual new thread, but I just received my first suit from the nice delivery man sent by Magnoli Clothiers. I bought a Washington Suit. Since this is my first suit, I can't really say much without an initial basis of comparison. It's fairly comfortable just standing up, but the waist is a bit too small to sit down comfortably, albeit manageable. To put it in perspective, I have to suck my stomach in to button it up and I'm afraid of ripping something if I sit down too quickly. Would a tailor be able to fix that, and for a somewhat decent price?

The other thing is, I think the pants may be too long, but I tried it on without wearing shoes if that makes a big difference. I can't say much about the jacket besides it being somewhat hard to get on. Overall, I'm fairly happy with what I got though I do regret not just adding an inch to what the guy measuring me wrote me down as. I just wish it were a bit more perfect since I'm a broke high school student that worked and saved for this suit. I included amateur self shot cell phone pictures. Let me know if the jacket looks somewhat decent or if there's something I can potentially fix.

I didn't make the images viewable here because they are big, ugly and fairly blurry.

Coudl you do a picture of the front without streching out your arms? It's hard to tell the curve of the lapels and the fit of the shoulders.
I imagine that all DB suits look a big strange in the jesus christ pose but all in all its not bad. If you feel it is to small in the waist did you ask magnoli to make the changes? As far as I know he is very customer friendly.

It sounds like the suit is too tight at the waist; but to be sure, we need to see a full-frontal pic with your hands down at your sides. Make sure you are standing natural and relaxed, without your gut sucked in. A tailor could do a quick fix by moving the buttons, but it would be a shame to do that to a fine new suit.

Yes indeed it makes a big difference. Try the pants with the shoes you intend to wear with the suit. The pant legs should hang straight in the back and the hem should fall no lower than 1 inch from the ground and some men like them considerably higher.

The following would help:

  • Front and rear views of trousers without coat but showing your feet with shoes on.
Front and rear views with coat on but with your hands by your sides, not in crucifixion mode

Without these it is difcult to be fair to you.

(With the little guy getting into the modeling act too ;) )

Does it have a British label? Two back pockets in a 1950s British pair of trousers is very unusual.

Its an Austin Reed from 1954, and it does have two back pockets. I actually never noticed that before you mentioned it (I don't really use back pockets...).

In later years, Austin Reed was sold heavily in the US ('70s-'90s, at least). I don't know if that brand was sold in the US in 1954 or not.

Hey guys, thanks for your replies. I have a formal event coming up on May 21st in which I'm going to wear this suit for so sending it back to Magnoli is a bit out of the question. I'm going to go to a tailor asap this week. I'll post better pictures when I find my camera.

For what it's worth, I tried on the pants again wearing the shoes..and it looks terrible from my perspective. I'm a teenager who has worn baggy jeans before, and these pants were baggy. They sagged a good amount even though I wore them as high up as my crotch permitted. I'll get some better pictures in when I can.

Edit: Oh and I'm sorry about the poses I made. I honestly didn't know what to do, and Matt Deckard's pose struck me the most when I was trying to think standing in front of my cell phone self timer camera.

Here are the pictures. It was a bit hard to find good places to put them for self timer but if you need better ones let me know. I think these illustrate just how long these pants are. I'm wearing them a bit below my belly button the whole time, as far as my crotch permits. And if you notice, I didn't button up my button fly. I can only either hook my pants or button a few and somewhat be able to breathe or sit. Can't have both at the same time.
