What to me is the quintessential stingy: Resistol with a 2” underwelt brim and back bow.

Nice show of hats today Gentlemen! For day six, my Akubra Hampton in Cedar Brown:

Nice hats, if maybe a bit on the smallish side; I'd rather the crown was straight-sided and at least a little taller. Since it's neither, I have to change the factory Center Dent crease to a Teardrop so my head will fit in the crown without altering the crease.

Thank you both, Joe and Brent. Trying to keep up appearances as best I can! This seasonal effort to feature the slim brims has been a hoot, and the lids y’all have pulled out are just spectacular!!
Great show, Merry/Happy StingyMas!!!!
Or a Happy Homburnikka?!
Oohhh. There’s an idea for next year. Homburnika 8 Crazy Nights of Homburg LOL

Day six of Stingymas. When is a stingy not really a stingy? During the later 1950s, brims started to slim down, a 2" size became quite popular. We now consider them a "stingy", but looking at the hat, it still has Fedora lines and construction. I consider a stingy one of those 1965 1 1/2 plaid "Tom Landry" hats. A prime example is this lat 1950s Dobbs Twenty. Great felt, classic lines and a Guild Edge (Cavanagh edge). Does not look like a stingy on the head, IMHO.

Definitely nothing stingy about dropping a twenty dollar bill on a hat in the 1950s! Except maybe how miserly one might have had to be the rest of the year in order to do so! Beautiful hat Mike.

On the Seventh Day of StingyMas...

1950s Stetson 3X Beaver Quality - Steel Grey
6 inch open crown - rakish 5 to 4 inch as shaped
1 7/8 Black Grosgrain Ribbon with Boxcar Bow treatment.
2 1/8 brim with 1/8 accented bound edge

The 2 1/8 brim on this 1950s Stetson 3X Beaver Quality may be stingy... but the crown at about 6 inches open certainly is not! With these proportions the crown was looking a bit stovepipe like. It seems whenever I pick this one up I’m working the crown wider and down a bit. It has a cool boxcar bow ribbon treatment. The steel grey felt has some blue tones to it and is a similar feel to my same period whippet.

Historically Akubra is/has been known for "working" hats, usually with wide brims to protect the wearer from the harsh Australian sun. They may have had others through the years, but currently their offerings of fur felt stingies are limited to the Hampton, the Rap (which has been discontinued), and the Trilby (which has also been discontinued). I've read rumors that the Hampton might be discontinued as well, but I'm hoping that won't happen until after I've gotten the other two colors I'd like to have.

Day seven of Stingymas, and my seventh and last stingy brim--another Akubra Hampton, this time in black:

I can't say I'm a big fan of black hats, but earlier this year The Hattery had a sale on selected hats and I couldn't resist the price. There's nothing wrong with black, but I'd really rather it was Carbon Grey or Federation Navy. Oh well.

Big 10 ft. swell breaking pretty far off shore. I had to swim out unusually far to get past the surfers waiting to catch a wave just before it breaks and paddle into it. I swam my 500 M. course south, then swam back in with the waves breaking erratically. Misjudged one and spent more time underwater than I am comfortable with being tossed around a bit. I realized why no one was surfing this part of the beach. The air temp was low 70s, water temp high 70s, mostly cloudy with showers.

2 3/8th inch Optimo got rained on a bit, but it is just fine and has a nice light felt that forms to the touch.

Merry StingyMas!

There’s a lot to like here. In my size, I’d have guessed it had a 2 1/2 or 2 5/8 inch brim: doesn’t look stingy at all to me. The crown shape etc. is also more classic fedora and less 1960s stingy. Looks great on you too.
