Well the Frank Brother spade sole spectators arrived yesterday, I spent the major portion of my time applying the Cadillac boot and shoe care lotion, letting it absorb deep inside and outside of the shoes, then as it was boiling hot here where I live, I applied a very thin coat of mink oil and let that absorb in earlier today, then spent some time with the cream cream shoe paste and then wax polish. They sure turned out very nice, a heavy built shoe with no real issues at all. These are more than likely from the 1950's, as Frank Brothers did not last as a Department Store and these shoes more than likely were made in Brockton, Mass.

don't use mink oil. among other things it goes rancid.

I disagree. Those look late 40s to me from the sole shape and are very nice as well.

I know there is some debate about mink oil, however, among a few places in the custom shoe making classes, it is made mention that mink oil is actually used by someone making shoes, (CareDecker being one source) while making a shoe, it is used to aide in making the leather more soft and pliable in the course of steps to make a shoe.

You may be correct about the age of these shoes, I am certainly not a super expert on dating shoes, other than I know they are not made in China and are vintage from before 1960's! LOL!

I did see on a google search that Frank Brothers went out of business I think it was late 1950's? They had some issues with lawsuits and other shoe making sources, but an interesting amount of information is available about the company history.

Arrived today - Allen Edmonds Broadstreet in the walnut/bone colour scheme.

I've always liked the look of this model, but could never justify the expense - the brown/navy Strawfuts I have came from a cheapo eBay seller. A while ago however, AE had them on sale; to jump on the Gatsby movie bandwagon I think.

I'm liking them and I suppose I'll have to dig out something other than shorts to wear now :D

They are great looking shoes, now it is either a matching shoulder holster...or....some wild socks!

One company in the entire USA that reburbishes shoes with orthotics, and also makes custom made orthotic shoes? Seriously? They do have a nice website which makes a huge difference in this century.
So you won't divulge the names? You know what the kids over at Style Forum would say; give up the names or they don't exist.

I love this guy's 1920s shoes with the 'French' toes (raised toecaps)...almost 60s in their sleekness...a lot like where Italian shoemakers like Freccia Bestetti are going.

You can see in the picture of the sole, there is an extra layer of leather, sort of like a "topy" added to the sole, it actually covers the stitching of the sole, and there is a slight lip on the side of the soles where that slice of leather extends out just a hair.

I spent all day yesterday putting Cadillac boot and shoe care lotion on these, then earlier today, wiped and soft buffed them off. Not going to put any polish on them yet. The one picture you can see the difference in colors, the toe area and then up on the upper sides of the shoes have the pearl color, I was able to pick up some Meltonian polish that I will mix up with a few other colors to get an exact match, silver metallic, bone with and white all mixed together and it is a very good match. This is my first heavy pair of Salvatores, I am really happy with them, super nice and made really well.

Brazen: William Stanley Moore is pictured on May 1, 1925, with a cigarette in hand. He was described as an opium dealer who operated with large quantities of fake opium and cocaine. He also had associations with waterfront thieves and drug traders

I've managed to bag a few pairs of half decent shoes over the last few weeks or so(half decent by my standards that is!)
here's the first one a pair of Gazelle skin Grensons I think from the 60's?...the leather is still beautifully supple and they fit perfect!
