Yes, the SAV is all about giant bugs which descend out of trees and land in your hair. Flying palmettos! Thank heavens it's cooler now and most have died off, they are a holy terror. You set one foot on the sidewalk and five of them scatter. I'm in a groundfloor downtown apartment, so they like to sneak in and greet me at the door, sneaky buggers.
I'm a born & bred Manhattan gal, so I have alot of kinship with the city, though I like Brooklyn better, really, as I'm poor and that's my best option for living. ;) Savannah is so lovely, small & lazy, but I'm really pining for more diverse cultural atmosphere (actual music! & galleries! & more resturants--- Chinese!) after more than four years here. Even though the town is getting yuppified (a Marc Jacobs store is opening on Broughton; horror) and the shops are more geared to locals rather than tourists, I'm certainly ready for change.

& I certainly second the cocktails-- martinis & sidecars, of course! I've hosted a quite few Prohibition and Depression-themed parties in the past. ;)

Miss_Bella_Hell: what are you studying in grad? I'm going for a Fiction MFA. & so terrified/excited! Ee.

Very nice! I love most of the SS clothes, but that site is still a little too expensive for my tastes. I still stick to ebay and see what I can get for a deal.lol

This is actually something I had meant to post much earlier, but somehow missed it:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=180059727283&rd=1&rd=1

Not vintage, but a nice addition, and I think it has somewhat a classic flair.

I went crazy and spent a lot (for me anyway) on this little number awhile ago:

It's 1940's, light blue with brown velvet trim. I'm very excited for it, I love light blue and brown.

Very cute, pigeon toe! I love light blue and brown, too. Pink and brown is another fave combo of mine.

Today we went a little nuts - my husband took me to the antique mall and we spent close to $300 in 2 vintage clothing booths. I'm one of those people who likes to find dresses for $5 at estate sales or flea markets, so that was a big splurge for me! lol I came out with a 40s/50s girdle, 40s black suede peeptoe pumps, a wool crepe dress with a beaded satin collar, adorable black tilt hat with feathers, a black corde clutch purse, a compact, and a few other items that I can't recall. I will have to take pictures and post them here!

Oh My, those bugs freaked me out. I'm not a fan of bugs, especially crunchy bugs.
Yes, Manhattan can be incredibly expensive. My sister lives in a 2 bedroom 2 bath on the upper west side (right on the edge of upper) by Columbus Circle and Trumps new big mall. I almost dropped dead when I found out what they were paying for rent. I own a 1500 sq.ft. 2 story, 2 bedroom 3 bathroom condo with a balcony on the first floor and a private roofdeck overlooking the city off of the master bedroom and 2 garage parking spaces. Her rent for her 900 sq.ft. apartment is more than my mortgage!! I live in Boston, which just got voted the most expensive city for real estate, I don't believe that for a second. My sister is married to a patent lawyer, he makes a decent living, and the only apartments they can afford in NYC aren't big enough for their growing family. They would really like to buy a place in Brooklyn, but they are having trouble finding a big enough place there that is also affordable. I don't know how people do it. I'm a city girl too but nothing beats NYC. I think it's so cool that she can walk out her door and be at a great restaurant, mall or the movie theater in seconds. There is just so much to do in her neighborhood. Brooklyn is great too. It must feel good to know that you will be going back home. Keep us posted on the move. I go to the city alot, you, Bella and me and other lounger ladies should plan to have a girls get together.

OK sorry to go off topic like that!! You know me!! Back to the purchases Landgirl that skirt is great!! I think I'm just gonna have to get me one, hope you don't mind. I have a black pencil skirt that I got a while back from that very website. Not sure if it is stop staring or not, but I really like it. It's that cotton/spandex that some of the girls don't like because of it's fit and the fact that it's not period accurate. But for me it's great. I need a little more room in the back and a smaller waist. With this skirt there's enough stretch so I could get the correct waist size and still fit in the tooshy! Very rare for me. Let us know when you get it. I like all of SS clothes that I have so far. Tell us what you think of how it fits.

Pigeon Toe, that dress is lovely. I'm sure it will look even prettier on. The color combination of the light blue and the dark brown velvet is such a great combination, one of my favorites along with light pink and dark brown. Have fun wearing it!

I'm glad to see that so many of you ladies are actually finding things. A few weeks back I got a bunch of stuff on ebay, all for great prices. Now I can hardly find anything, and what I do find is going for a ridiculous amount of money. Why would I pay $200 for a vintage dress when the week before I paid $50 for the same quality dress in the same condition. I'll admit, I've done some silly bidding for things I just had to have. But some of these dresses that are going for these astronomical prices aren't even that great!! IMO, if you love a dress and it's in good condition and you know that you won't probably ever find one like it, bid on it. It's not outrageous to spend $100 on a nice vintage dress. I know, it'd be nice to get it for less, but usually that's not gonna happen, at least on the bay. Besides, have you seen the prices of modern clothes (yup, I have modern clothes)? The clothes that fit me the best are from either JCrew or Banana Republic. There are a few department stores, like Bloomingdales, that have their own label and they fit incredibly well. I'm a tough fit, especially since I've gained a bunch of weight. The clothes from stores that sell less expensive lines just don't fit me all that great. HandM is the exception, sometimes, I usually end up needing tailoring, so I might as well just buy the more expensive stuff that either needs no tailoring or offers it for free. Anyway, just like we get what we pay for in modern day clothes, we get what we pay for in vintage clothes too. So, I know vintage was once less expensive than it is now. I'm hoping that someday soon it will go back down. But, you do get what you pay for. It's vintage, it's hard to find, don't let it pass you by. I have done that too many times, and now regret it. I also went through a major losing streak on ebay where I couldn't win anything. I lost three dresses, and actually had tears in my eyes I wanted them so badly. But, keep your eye at all times on ebay. Just a few weeks ago their was so much vintage all at really low prices. So now they are probably on a downswing. It's bound to swing up again, maybe after the new year. Then VLV will be approaching, and things always pop up for that. Argh, really long rant, sorry, passionate about my shopping:p

so excited!!

i finally won a wedding dress like i have been trying for for months! it is a size 6-8 which means that if it is too big for the model i can clothespin it together where it wont show.

i am really really thrilled. broke, but thrilled. the dress only has a couple of spots on the hem, like the bride stepped on it.

It says rayon ribbon, whatever that means, here's a close up.

no, not my wedding, for a model and a photo shoot! i am STILL working on a story of classic fashions and the wedding dress will be part of that and also for a "art" shoot i have in mind.

i am really really excited! it has taken a long time and i have lost a lot of dresses which means that this one was just waiting for me. with shipping it was $63 but it is in such fabulous shape i think it was worth it.

whoopy-doo!

and thanks daisy!
