Yesterday I bypassed a lovely portable Royal typewriter for $25, and a made-in-Italy-for-JC Penney straw boater with hat box for $30, because I just wasn't in a spending mood. Today I was sorry I hadn't nabbed at least one of them. Fortunately a different antiques market offered a fresh opportunity by way of this darling Jemco purse in fine condition. The leather is still soft and supple, strap is strong, and the suede interior is clean & fully in tact. The tag said $40, which I knew was a good price, but I wasn't persuaded to make it mine until the dealer offered to accept thirty (without my saying a word). He said, "it's in real nice condition, and old. I think it dates from the 40s."

Some excellent buys and I'm pleased to add a couple of my own. One of these books was $1 and the other was $1.50 so I was happy before I'd even opened them.

From 1955, this book is predominately concerned with furniture construction but also offers tips on embroidery and fixing leaking taps; pretty comprehensive!

My favourite. According to the inscription Enid gave this book to her Darling Ray for Christmas, 1951. There is a couple who features throughout the book and provide plenty of entertainment.

That's typical of their exchanges but I have to say my favourite moment is...

Quite a home movie they were planning. I wonder if it inspired Enid and Ray to get the knives out?

That is really cute Lenore!
I have been really stressed out at work and my birthday is coming up, so that combination has been terrible for my wallet, but great for my mood ;)
I got a Lena Hoschek skirt and blouse in the meail today and am in love.

My goodness, I'm lusting over those maroon and white shoes and that lovely cream cardigan! What a great haul!

I'm hoping to be posting much more often in this thread as I'm overhauling my wardrobe. Many lovely dresses and such to come... This was the first dress I have bought in a long time, along with a new girdle, and as someone told me in another thread "one can never go wrong with pineapples."

Drappa, those are some amazing purchases! That navy blue skirt is too gorgeous for words.

And Lenore I love your pineapple dress! So cute! It would look phenomenal with some red lipstick.

Please share more about this skirt - material, maker... solid blue, full skirts of that length are difficult to find.

Terrific purchases you've made!
It is by Lena Hoschek (Austrian designer) and I haven't received it yet, but have other items by her and the length is always just below the knee on me (I'm 5'6"). The material is cotton and her items are very well made, though also really expensive. I have only ever bought things by her heavily discounted at the end of season or from online shops in the sale.
I don't have a measuring tape at hand as I am out of town, but estimate her skirts are about 26" long. She has an online shop with more info.

Thanks ladies, I am pretty happy with my current wardrobe for once!

I should change my name to Alice Brown ... Mostly brown bakelite, and a bit of green. The small buttons and buckle are intended for things I'm making, or at least imagining I'm going to make. One of the larger buttons is going to "freshen up" my winter coat for next year.

I love the navy skirt! How long is it? I always thought Modcloth dresses and skirts were a bit short, but that one looks okay length-wise.
I won this Swirl, which looks almost deadstock. Can't wait for it to arrive! And the weather to warm up obviously...

Thanks for the suggestions Wahine! Is it bad that I'm just looking for an excuse to buy more dresses and skirts to match my shoes? :$

And thank you Drappa, I love your purchases as well! Especially the gingham dress, very pretty! As for the skirt I bought off Modcloth, it's quite long (below the knee) and has a really nice and classic shape.
