I agree, lovely dress Lina, you will be quite the bombshell in that!

Thanks for the compliment about the coral Lina. If you come to Rye, which i hope you will, there is a fab antique jewellers, who does really excellent jewellery, costume and the real stuff, at very good prices indeed.

I have always loved Coral, (there used to be loads of coral shops when i was growing up in Italy). Plus the colour is so amazing and universally flattering. It's getting quite scarce now, due to environmental issues, so good quality vintage coral should be snapped up, before the prices go through the roof!

Hi ladies! Long time no etc.
I bought two fab dresses at Playclothes Vintage in Burbank, CA. No pics with them on yet, but check this out:

I love that this is the actual vintage version of all the repro dresses out there. Only problem - seams are shattering. I wore this to a fab night out and the butt seam ripped in the middle of the festivities. Fortunately I had a lovely scarf with me so I just wrapped it around my lower half like a sarong and continued the evening like a champ.

That would be lovely! I've been meaning to arrange a meet-up! :) I'll have to keep my peepers open for some coral. There are some lovely antique jewellers here in Brighton (as I'm sure you know) but they're all eye-wateringly expensive...

If you ever get the urge to put on a little black dress and have cocktails at the Ritz, you already have the hat!

That's right. Dress for the life you want, not the life you have! :)

I've done some random shopping lately:

A vintage faux-pearl necklace. I'm addicted to pearls and I've been wanting one of these double row necklaces where the pearl size grows towards the center for ages. And honestly, can a girl have too many pearl necklaces?

An issue of a weekly Swedish magazine ("Hemmets veckotidning") from September, 1936. I haven't read it yet, but I leafed through it and I spotted a page on nightgowns and underwear with patterns - not paper patterns (you had to write to them for that) but at least you can see exactly how they are constructed. Mostly, it consists of serials (one Agatha Christie!) and short stories, but there are also some articles, including one on "How King Edward spends his days", perfectly oblivious to any drama or scandal.

A brooch with some sort of spiky flower/fruit and leaves. I have no idea when it's from but it's big – it doesn't fit in the palm of my hand – with a curving stem, and a real eye catcher without being bling-y. I think I fell for it because of the combination of curves and strictness; it appeals to the art deco-fan in me.

Hi ladies,

It has been a while since I've been in these parts! Wow, you all have been buying some amazing things. I haven't been buying much lately, on a budget. :( But, I did, however just buy this Stop Staring dress. Fits like a dream!

Great choice! :)

@Flicka: I love the brooch. Would be interesting to see it on a collar.

Here´s what I got today:

Maybe someone can help me date them? I´d say late 50s/early 60s for the first and 70s for the second one, but I´m not sure.

LOVE THIS! Prepare yourself for lots and lots of compliments!

I have been hemming and hawing for ages and ages about getting the pencil version of this dress in red - I still haven't made up my mind!

Hi Miss Golightly!

I too went back and forth on whether to buy it. I saw it online ages ago, but wanted to be able to try it on first. When I saw it in a store and tried it, I just knew it had to go home with me! Black dress with leopard print, you can't go wrong. And the fit is amazing! If I could pull off the pencil version, I would have gotten it!

I found both of these on etsy. I had the earrings in my favorites for months. So glad no one else got them. Now I just need the prefect lucite purse.

My favourite from a great haul is this modern but decidedly vintage looking wool suit for $20. it is from a UK company called Precis Petite. If you are on that side of the pond, I would totally check them out. If they make stuff like this, it is likely they have other things that would fit in a vintage styles wardrobe. Again, the detail isn't great, but it fits me like a glove. (It's hubby's fav too.)

Kymeratale: I love Precis Petite- i get a lot of my clothes there- the fit is great for me as I'm 5 foot tall and curvy, the jeans are cut with highwaists and curved hips and rear- they have loads of lovely vintage-inspired styles. I also like Phase 8 (Occasionally Coast too). I think these are thought of as 'Granny stores' but i've always been attracted to thier clothing, even as a teenager.

DPD, that dress is to die for. Beautiful!

Me, I got something un-vintage, but since I love Thin Man, how could I resist a fox terrier brooch? I mean, it's Asta!
