This is the newest resident in my clothes closet. I'm crazy for bateau necklines! Cotton dress, metal side zipper. The v-back detail and hidden pockets sort of clinched it for me. I have yellow peep-toes that go nicely with the dress.

I like that the back buttons are functional and not decoration. Does anyone else get "vintage claustrophobia" when pulling a garment over your head and the only real opening is a side zipper?

Oh wow, that dress is stunning! Especially the back, and yes I do! I often feel trapped and panic if I can't get something off.
Who made that dress, is there a label?

I totally went through that trying on a dress at an antique store over the weekend! I decided the dress definitely had to come home with me though. It's so cute. I figured out how to get it off, so I figured what they hey.

That is one beautiful dress, and I love that neckline!

Auction Finds

I stopped by a weekly auction house near where I work yesterday to check out what they had. Imagine my amazement when I ran across the table with the vintage clothing on it!! So I went and got a bidding ticket!! I bought a "lot" of clothing for this dress! I went high $150... but got 5 dresses (another is a cute R & K original dress), a strapless bra slip, three shirts and a wool pair of snow pants for a child! hahaha The shoes I bought as a "lot" also and got all 6 pairs for $3! When I got home, I was excited to find that all the clothes fit me as well as the front two shoes in my picture!! Those were the only pairs I really, really wanted!!

The keeper dress! I love a nice cotton dress with a cute print and the peasant style neckline on this dress is to die for!

Rosie Beau - thank you! I got the hat off ASOS - they also had one that was completely black but I thought the tobacco colour would go with more stuff.

MaryDeluxe - what a fabulous haul - the dress is just the cutest. That's not he R&K one right? I love R&K - one of my fave labels.....

Sheeplady....it was a very rare find. I haven't run across a big amount of vintage clothing like that at an estate sale or an auction in years! I figure if I just divide the 5 dresses into $150, I've still only spent $30 bucks a dress! All the dresses are in great condition and I can wear them. See how good I am at justifying my purchases. And you are right, I can hopefully resale some things and make up for what I spent and what I'll keep!

Miss Golightly...No that dress is not the R&K, that one doesn't have a label in it. The R&K one is really cute too...1950's light green cotton, with bows on the shoulders, and pleaded skirt....I've had many R&K dresses pass through my hands over the years and their 40's and 50's dresses are my favorites!

MaryDeluxe, what a find!!! That dress is so so great, and I think the two pairs of shoes that fit you just happen to be the best looking in the lot!
I'd given up on my local antique auction for clothes years ago, but this post had me scrambling to check to their online catalog for the weekend lol.

Wow- the front two pairs of shoes are quite something! Absolutely wonderful- I like the red’uns too- ok, really I like them all but as I said the first three are my favourite…. and such a bargain too! I never have finds like these…..

As for the dress, well, that’s a real corker!!!

Drappa, Tatum and Miss Golightly, thank you for the compliments. It's fun dress to wear - the hem sweep is about 96-inches.

Drappa, The label is Marcy Lee, Dallas.

Tatum, glad to hear I'm not the only one who panics with some of the side-zippered dresses. I tried one on in a local vintage store - it went on fine... but harder to get off. I pondered buying it, wearing it out, and dealing with it later, but thankfully a calm head prevailed over rapid breathing and an increased heart rate and I worked my way out of it's rayon clutches.:D

Miss Golightly, your sun hat will look great and help you keep that delicate Irish complexion beautiful.
