Bunny-that dress is amazing. I'd love to see a picture of the front.

This is a Christmas present for my sister. It cost me 50 bucks more than it was supposed to because I accedently picked expedited shipping. :( I hope it at least fits her.

Wheee!

Waah, this is a dud. It's a '70s-'80s repro. The seller made an honest mistake but still won't really admit that I'm right. Which is ok, I accepted long ago that most people see being wrong as losing rather than learning.

The fabric with "some stretch" is a four-way stretch spandex type deal. The zipper, while probably metal (hard to tell), is obviously modern. It's overlocked. I suppose all of these points except for the fabric are debatable, but you know when you can just -tell-? I can just..tell. Pretty it is, but '40s it is not.

I'm pretty upset, I don't make a helluva lot of money and this was for an event, which I now just have to wear my sunday best to, I suppose (Altho my gorgeous hat will spruce up an old dress no end, so no great tragedy). Even if I returned it, postage means I'd still be almost the price of the dress out of pocket as the dress is on the other side of the world. Grumpy.

Argh, sorry for being a Debbie Downer, but I just needed to vent to people who actually understand. lol :(

Why can't you wear it to the event? I'm sure it looks great on you and no one will know (or care about) what you know. I really think that seller should give you at least a partial refund, though - whether or not she wants to accept her mistake, you're an unhappy customer and she should make things right with you. Having the age of something off by 30 years is no small thing, especially since I'm betting the price would have been much different had she known.

Cecil...

I'm sorry for your disappointment!
Unless the event is for FIT or Parsons, with some sort of fashion historians checking labels, seams and hardware for accuracy, I'd still wear it. No doubt you will look killer and if anybody questions...tell them it's a repro but it's such a good example of design from the era that you made an exception just this once. That will shut them up, lol.

See, the thing is, when you show up looking fantastic, some women (and you know the type I mean), will always have to try to break you down on some account simply because it's impossible for them to elevate themselves. So if fabric authenticity is the best they got...ha...let 'em bring it. ;)

I did PM you some ideas, just in case. However, I don't think any of them are better than this dress.

cecil, the dress is beautiful.

I would be mad too expecting to get an authentic piece and it turns out repro, but with this particular dress, I would still wear it. You could wear authentic accessories, shoes, make-up and hair and I'd bet that nobody would second guess it. I can see it being a hit either way, because it is still a beautiful dress..and like others have said, a pretty good imitation.

Thanks for the kind words ladies, but the spandex-ness didn't show up in the photos, it looks cheap and blah in the flesh. The shape is beautiful though so I may still wear it yet, and/or get it copied in a better fabric. I can't be bothered arguing with the seller so I'm just going to cut my losses and re-sell it in a few months as a SPANDEX DRESS FROM THE EIGHTIES. Someone will buy it I'm sure.

They said it'is a lizard bag from the 50s and in so good conditions, that it's almost new!

Inside there are also a purse and a mirror, everything wrapped with paper.
