I bought this straight, (mostly) smooth apple from Paykoc (pronounced PIE coach) Imports several months ago. Only paid $75, and it's worth every penny.




Just a hair under 6 inches, and 1.59 oz. I thought that was a bit heavy for a meer at first, but a little bit of looking at other brands showed that apples tend to be weightier than many other shapes, and an ounce and a half was right around what most were.
It smokes really nice and dry. I am happy enough with it I may end up buying another pipe from Paykoc.

This is a Smokarol pipe, made in 1915. I believe it was made as a promotion for the Smokarol smoking system, which was supposed to be perfectly packed bowls of tobacco in paper "cartridges" made to fit snugly in most bowl sizes. You would insert the cartridge part way into the bowl, then push the tobacco down while pulling out the paper tube with the other hand. Kind of like a stripper clip for your pipe. Despite companies like Dunhill getting on board with it, it ended up a commercial failure.
I like the horn shape, quite unusual and very possible made so as to attract the curiosity of other smokers, perhaps as a way togenerate a bit of cheap publicity.




It kinda reminds me of the giant planet killer thing from Star Trek...

I ordered this early last month from an Etsy seller in Northern Ireland. An early gift to myself. It took about 11 days to get to Los Angeles. I eagerly awaited it's delivery as it took a long, slow and entirely unnecessary 12 day round trip to North Carolina and back. I guess someone didn't hear that there is only one Fort Bragg in the country now, and it's in California.

Picked this Dr.Grabow Golden Duke up on etsy. I had been seeing pipes of this shape on YouTube, and it really started to grow on me. Which led me down a rabbit hole of what's a bulldog or rhodesian,squat or not and all manner of nuances to confuse a newbie. So began a search for an affordable one for myself. This one caught my eye due to the neat rustification,and was well within my budget. I also settled that a bent bulldog was the one for me.

I apologize for the bad pic,our weather has turned ugly for the evening. But nevermind the weather,my fiance's stepdad gifted me 3 more Dr.Grabows this evening! A Silver Duke squat bulldog, a white color duke, and a wire rusticated starfire. Haven't cleaned the starfire yet, it has a damaged stem. The bulldog was pretty gunked up inside, however the color duke only looks to have been smoked two or three times.

I found this "pigmy" in unsmoked condition several months sgo, and have been enjoying it a lot ever since. I don't know where it was made (although I suspect France) nor when (I suspect older rather than newer due to the threaded bone tenon) but it is nicely made and smokes well.




I wouldn't mind finding another in a different shape, but I doubt I will.

Decided to clean up the little starfire, not sure of the model number for this one. Despite the chunk bit out of the bit it smokes really well, it's light and handy. I think it'll make a dandy pipe for work.

It's one I really like as well, one of the main reasons I bought the bent bulldog I posted earlier in fact. In researching Dr.Grabow I've mostly seen it referred to as "wire carved", seems it was done with a stiff wire wheel.

Don’t know how they may do wire rustication in a factory setting but the Danish pipe carvers who invented the technique would wrap the stummel with copper wire, then sandblast it. The high straight ridges are where the wire was. I went back several pages in this thread for the pic but this is my Poul Winslow. I’ll reshoot new pics the next time I light it up.
