Don't forget, there is a lunar eclipse tonight (alas, not visible from North America). The moon will be darker / redder at moonrise as it will already be in Earth's shadow.

HanauMan do you have good visibility today in Scotland? Will you take eclipse photos?
In Moscow, unfortunately, everything is clouded up. And I had a night flight yesterday. Not today.

No, I didn't see the eclipse either due to clouds and rain. Got a lot of rain which helped bring down the oppressive heat we've had here over the past weeks.

I did not see eclipse too. The Moscow Planetarium, which had previously sold tickets to its observatory for eclipse, canceled the viewing because of the clouds. It's a pity.

Do you like astronomy? I guess that you learnt to navigate by the stars (I did in the Boy Scouts) for your flying career. I like looking at the moon thru my small telescope.

We are alike, my friend!
Yes, we were taught to navigate the stars, but it's long gone, it's very difficult to get lost today in modern sky on modern civil plane.
I have a telescope too, but I rarely look. It is in my mother's country house, here in Moscow it is impossible to look at anything other than the moon (the sky is too light).

Despite the fact that I have long been no longer a boy :) I still like night flights.
Stars over clouds amazing.

Arrived back at the Garrison, Petawawa, Ontario, late last night. Saw this fellow hanging around, and wondering what was up a tree near the 3rd Bn, Royal Canadian Regiment barracks. One of our resident Black Bears.

Using an older Blackberry, no flash, from inside my car. I thought about trying a closer shot, but then recalled I am not stupid.

We recently cancelled our camping trip to the base camp ground, owing to the increasing frequency of sightings and encounters.

It is called Black Bear Campground. We are not sure why.
