Amazing photos as always, Quigley Brown. You sir are an impeccable artist. Love the photo of the dapper bus passenger. I applaud his effort but his suit and hat both look about two sizes too large.

Thanks, Matt. Most of my photos are taken within a 5 or 6 block radius of where I live and I carry a camera at all times. I never know what I'm going to come across.

Shanghai - Glimpses of the old International Settlement:

The Palace and Cathay Hotels, Shanghai. Between them: Nanking Road, Shanghai's main shopping-street for over 100 years.

Former headquarters of the HSBC - Hong Kong-Shanghai Banking Corporation. The HSBC tried unsuccessfully to reoccupy the building in 1990, when a Shanghai government department vacated the structure. But the HSBC and the Shanghai Government could not agree to a price, and the building was sold to the Pudong Development Bank instead (which occupies the building today). HSBC has its new Shanghai headquarters across the river in the District of Pudong, facing their old stomping-grounds.

In the lobby of the Cathay Hotel, this reproduction gramophone was playing vintage jazz :) A very nice period touch.

I felt it would be disrespectful to leave the city, without acknowledging the amazing role that Shanghai played during the Second World War, providing refuge for tens of thousands of Jewish refugees, who fled to the International Settlement between 1933-1941, and who found safety there during the Second World War. This is the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum (a former synagogue) in Hongkou District of Shanghai, where many Jews lived during the War.
