QB, those are really impressive! great job on the effects, too. Thanks for posting!

Can anybody give some advice on photo editing? I need a (seemingly) simple effect: put white frames on photos of varying sizes. I'm a layman when it comes to photo editing, usually I use Ulead express or FastStone. Of course, it's possible to add frames in those programs. But I can only chose a fixed width, while what I need is a .. how do I call it, ratio(?) width.

Example: these two photos differ in size a lot, the left originally has about 3600x4000, the right 400x600 pixels. If I add a "50" frame to both, this is what I get when they are resized (or printed) in the same size:

What I want is the frames to be the same width in the prints of the same size, no matter how large the digital image was in the first place.
I'd really be grateful for any advice! Oh, and it'd be great if the effect could be obtained with a free or low-cost program. There's no way I can afford Photoshop. I have Gimp but not much experience in using it.

Quigley, that last one has a cinematographic quality to the lighting.

Thank you for compliment. I don't own a car...I can't even drive because of medical condition...so I take most of my photographs with-in walking or biking distance. I really can't make a career out of it because of the driving thing. I always carry a camera so that's how I get most of my shots. This house is only three blocks from where I live. I think an elderly woman lives there. I really appreciate digital. I couldn't afford film. I rarely make prints of my work. I just put them on my website.
