2010 was a fairly unhappy year for me (divorce), and on the day I shot these I was absolutely thinking of the impermanence of all things. I titled the folder these are in as "Winter roses."

The Pulgas Water Temple, in Redwood City, CA, was completed in 1938, and marks the terminus of the Hetch Hetchy Aqueduct. The aqueduct carries water for San Francisco and other nearby cities from the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, located approx. 160 miles away, inside Yosemite National Park.

I wonder if they know "pulgas" translates as "fleas" in English.

They do! The name came from an old Spanish land grant, Rancho de las Pulgas, which was so named because the explorers encountered the little beasties in the area.
