The uniform belonged to my grandfather; he was in the Coast Guard prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor. During the war he pulled convoy duty in the Atlantic. The sword is a late-pattern Japanese NCO's shin gunto, and the dagger is a Nazi SA dagger in excellent condition.

The stitching on the patches are very interesting. Never seen a stitch like that one used.

Restoring a Czechoslovak vz.32 helmet (Pattern 1932) Black painted helmets (also German and Soviet) was used after the war for Civil Defence and by firemen, different leather chinstrap and liner pads was used and smaller saddle rivets. I removed it all, bought replica of the prewar ones, only used content of the pads (horsehair). Then I sanded paint to bare metal and applied khaki matt lacquer (there's no RAl equivalent). The lacquer was cured by single 500W photo bulb for ca 30 mins.

@Brunswick, that's a great set of ERDL! And they look almost unworn. I wonder if the owner got them in anticipation of being a Ground FAC, but never got the chance? Nice item to have in a collection.

I think the original manufacturer still makes that knife minus the HJ insignia and blade inscription.
I never asked him the history behind his getting the knife. There are a lot of them in the marketplace. Almost like mugging a 16yo for his knife. Would a soldier of age actually carry this?

More likely that the soldier had been a member of the Hitler Youth before the war and had kept the knife -- receiving the knife would have been a sort of rite of passage. Also most young men in Germany would have been conscripted into the Wehrmacht at age 20 which meant they would have still been in the HJ a year or two before. There was also an SS panzer division called the Hitlerjugend division which were made up mainly of 18-19 year olds recruited from the HJ.

Just bought this not to long ago, anyone might know what the ruck is? I'm in love with it just wished I knew the origins of it.
