Try your beauty supply stores, ask for some kind of a bun ring. If not, you can easily make your own out of some old stockings stuffed with hair from your brush, cheap extensions, or cotton.

Taking a break from the bangs today and wearing a snood. With as many as I have made I only just made one for me! lol

I have been trying to not just pin-curl my hair in the same pattern every day.. so I have been rocking the V rolls a bit lately..
here it is when I was still blond:

But now I have dark hair again, here is me and the kidlet.

But in general.. on an every day basis my hair looks like this.. only brown

This side was slightly better!

The back. The pincurls from the day had been brushed out -- kinda. You can see the better roll!

Ok, I'm not in the vintage hair elite club! I've only been "doing" my hair for a few months now But this ain't bad for a first try, is it?

That is exactly how mine turn out, I have thin hair and can't get a "tube" roll, and end up getting "ears" like yours. It still looks super CUTE!

I think for fine hair (if that is you too) we need to use a rat. I am making a set of rats from fake hair to experiment.

Mine are just like this (you can see similarity!) PLus I have betty bangs cut that I am growing out.

Yep, I got thin hair. For YEARS my idea of a vintage hairstyle was a Louise Brooks bob with short Bettie bangs. Never did I realise that pincurls and patience are the magic ingredients to getting your hair to do what YOU want!

I've also got more hair on the left side of my head than I do on the right. Probably about 50% more and that's why my left roll looks great whereas the right one looks less full and sits a bit lower on my head. But I'm wearing these rolls today at work! The only way I'll get better is to do them every single day.

I've also got more hair on the left side of my head than I do on the right. Probably about 50% more and that's why my left roll looks great whereas the right one looks less full and sits a bit lower on my head. But I'm wearing these rolls today at work! The only way I'll get better is to do them every single day.

lol HAHA! ME TOO, stupid freakin' right side of the head! I think the trick is to forget about being symetrical, embrace the off kilter and it's much more satisfying LOL

I know I post too much on here, but I'm so gosh-darned excited to try all the styles in Vintage Hairstyling. Lauren Rennells, you're my hero!

This is "The Homemaker" (pay no attention to my face, I'm haggard):

Its much shorter than the one in the book. I think it looks very 30's - I don't usually wear 30's styles, but I like this one! Plus, it fits under my fedora:
