I got tired of all the hairspray in my roller set from Thursday for the Halloween weekend and spent a lot of time today finger combing it out and finger fluffing it. I worked in some oil to soften the frizz a little. I clipped up my seriously overgrown bags, I think it gives me a bit like a quasi 30s hairstyle look. It looks kind of puffy and fuzzy but I kind of like it that way...:p Totally modern exercise clothes here, dressed for my Pilates class at the YMCA tonight.

I SUPER DUPER LOVE THIS THREAD!!! YAY!

I think this is the most like Marilyn I will ever get. It is a mix of velcro rollers and some pin curls:

I am so behind on the hair thread because you all are seriously upping the game!

Welcome to Jirina and Psycho Sue! Love your red hair!! (I am biased to redheads, hahaha)

Your hair color is stunning along with your outfit and look. Well done!

I love everyones faux bangs, I went to sallys to find a bun rat like Fleurs and the ladys that worked there looked at me like I was crazy.

I cant seem to find one anywhere except online, any ideas where to pick one up other then sallys or online?

Look for one of these (usually where the bobby pins, hair nets and fake hair reside) and you can cut it in half (may need to also trim it based on your forehead size) and it already has a nice curve:

you can google "hair donut" or "chignon bun."

They are also super easy to make with your own saved hair or I used dyed human hair extensions in crazy red to match my hair and make my own. mat up the hair and shape it into a roll - i added a bit of soft thick wire to make it bendable but that's not really necessary. cover with a fine hairnet (also at sallys - made from fake hair and very find, almost invisible) to keep it all together. I also stitched mine down on the ends with needle and thread to keep it shaped nicely. Every now and then I spray it with a bit of hair spray to keep it smooth as well. I prefer the one I made of dyed hair than the foam ones because it was much easier to bobbin pin into it.

Hope that helps ;)

Inky your the best.

I tried making one out of my own hair but it was way to skimpy and about the size of a cigar.

If I cant find a bun rat I will most likely steal your idea of using fake hair, you should pantent that idea!

Your a genius you helped immensely, thank you!

I am making mine out of my own dyed hair, like Inky I have unnatural red, It really doesn't take to long to save up..clean out your brushes. I also have ones made out of fake red hair extensions. I have thin hair and it does curl wonderfully, but does not produce a full roll on top w/o a rat. IT"S A LIFE SAVER!

Bombshell Becca and Cherry Red, welcome to the bandwagon, you're looking great! :eusa_clap

Psycho Sue, welcome to the lounge, great 'dos :)

Darla1949, aren't you wearing faux bangs in the Hallowe'en costumes thread? They look fab!

I couldn't wait for my hair to fill up a rat, so I used upholstery stuffing. It works just as well, and its instant!

My pincurl set. No rhyme or reason -- just wherever they fit. It never comes out looking like the books anyway. It looks like this:

13938_165796914163_624014163_2797120_6813042_n.jpg

No matter what, I can't get my center part straight to save the life of me. It ALWAYS goes off to my right. :(

And if I make the pincurls a bit bigger and lower down on my head it looks like this:

13938_165796919163_624014163_2797121_1752336_n.jpg

I'm still a novice. I've never done anything with my hair until the last few months. Really.

Thank you c-dot, you sure are sweet. It is a faux bang but with out a rat its the happy pompadour tutorial from Laurens bobby pin blog. First you put your hair in a pony tail then roll and pin the sides. The out come is a bit larger then Fleurs tutorial.

Ah yes - She includes it in her book, too. My bangs are a wee-bit too short for it... It comes out looking rather anemic lol So I stick with the rolled bang revolution rat.

Cherry Red, congrats on making a snood! I am terrible at it!

Cherry Red...I really love your snood! You look like the real thing and so pretty.

I ordered the vintage hairstyle book 2nd edition from Lauren Renells. Initially, I was certain I'd just bob my entire mess of hair, but now I'm going to wait for the book and check out the possibilities with longer locks. You gals have given me so much to aspire to! Especially you RED girls. I am so tempted, but it takes a lot of root maintenance and seems to fade quickly on me.

Rats! Oh, woe is me....my Great Aunt had a ton of them and we threw them out after she passed away. (Also lost is a Persian Lamb coat! Boo hoo!)
