I've had a bit of a hair color change. Went from blue black to a coppery red with purple highlights (my business is named The Darling Plum)

I like your new hair color, SheBear. You look very Liz Taylor, Lenore.

I'm still trying to get the hang of victory rolls. Sorry for the odd color, but I was experimenting with my phone camera settings and forgot to put it back before my hubby snapped this and then ran out the door. My blouse is the Folkwear Rosie the Riveter Camp Shirt.

I have a question for you ladies...not sure this is the right place for it but how do you get your sets to stay in place after you brush them? I've tried and tried but the curls always end up flipping out and rearranging themselves into ringlets after about 30 minutes or so. Is it just a matter of me not brushing them enough? Is it because of my thick hair? I don't use setting lotion--would that definitely make a difference? And I've tried using hairspray but it just makes the curls come out...anyone have any ideas?

I would try a setting lotion and see how your hair fares with that.

My general M.O. is the following:
1. setting lotion in curlers
2. sleep
3. pull out curlers
4. brush
5. brush
6. brush some more until it gets in the general look I'm going for
7. then spray it with hair spray (though not too much)
8. once it dries brush it again to the finished look

Everyone has their own way of doing it, but that's how I get mine to behave. My sets usually last anywhere from 3-5 days, with pinning the curls back up at night.

I am a long time lurker and I've finally have the guts to share some of my hair do's with you guys. I love all ya'lls hairstyles and hope I can be as awesome as you guys! Here are some examples of what I've been doing with my own hair.

Thanks, I'll try that! Sounds like I need to brush it into oblivion. :p

I have a question. I just got my middy cut to about 10 inches, and in a fresh pillow roller set it looks like this...
img_1207.jpg

But that's too tight for my taste, and hot rollers are less convenient and don't hold. On the second day it looks perfect...

How do you think I might be able to get it to look like this from the start? I'm thinking of doubling up on pillow rollers, two to each curl.

Ok, going to be brave and share my hair! This is my third attempt? Something like that, at a wet set and also lots of brushing after. I kind of winged it, my mum helped me put in the curls and then I brushed and shaped them as best I could. Not really sure the look I was going for but I kind of like it :) To be honest, I'd love to do more 40's style hair and small victory rolls as well but finding short sets is hard :( And I don't really want to grow my hair too long, it really bugs me. Anyway, if you have any pro tips to throw at me and helpful hints etc. feel free. Oh and please excuse the pyjamas...

Wow Queen! That looks really pretty! I really like the wave over the eye. I think this style suits you well :)

I'd say experiment with victory rolls :) I think they'd look really nice on you, one with the fringe section and then another on each side. While setting hair does help with making the rolls, just working on your normal hair with a little backcombing and hairspray can be a good place to start.

40s short sets are harder to find, but your hair is a really nice length for some 30s hairstyles, if they interest you at all.

And I wont excuse the pyjamas - they look nice!

Thank you ^_^ I tried the victory rolls today (Second day hair looks crazy in the morning!) but my hands just wouldn't turn the way I wanted xD More practice I think! I have had rolls in before, but a professional hairstylist put those in for me and I loved them!

I did think it looked more 30's than 40's, I will have a look for some sets! And possibly try some finger waves next as well!

Ha thank you :)

I think you look awsome with both first and second day hair. :)

Have you tried pin curls instead of pillow rollers? With pin curls it's easier to tweak the size by rolling over one or two fingers, plus they're nicer to sleep on than thicker (or double) rollers.

I just cut my hair today. Went from nearly shoulder length to jaw length layered. With bangs. My hair grows super slow so part of me didn't want to cut but it was necessary; it was fried. I hope it's still long enough for vintage styles.

I had my hair cut a lot shorter than usual yesterday and also had a few layers for the first time. I did a quick pincurl set to see how it would curl.

I wanted to move away from waves and try something different but I'm not sure if I like it at all! :/
