I did a comparison set to show the wave the more commonly found Marcel waver gives. It's a larger wave, but shallower and doesn't last as long.

This set picture is from when my hair was much shorter, but shows what this type of Marcel waver looks like.

This is interesting. I think I prefer the look of the larger wave on the top of your head. How would it look to use
the large ones on top and the tighter ones on the sides?

Here's my barnet from saturday. It's the first time I tried doing the roll at the back so it's far from perfect but I love it! Dad said I had "nanny hair" meaning that's how his mum used to wear her's. Awwww!

Frizz Control

I need some advice for frizz control. As it starts to get warmer and I'm outside more, I find my hair is getting frizzier. While Alberta is far from humid, it can get really dry and windy here and its wreaking havoc on my hair!

Here is what my style looks like the average morning:

But, depending on the day and what I'm doing, it can end up looking like this in the evening:

OK, this is an extreme case where I had spent the afternoon in the wind & rain and neglected to brush my hair before the photo was taken, but it could easily happen again when I have something to cover and don't have time to brush.

I'm wondering what products you lovely ladies use to keep the frizzies at bay. Right now I use a Tres Semme curl moisturizer when I roll and then some hairspray after brushing out. I've yet to find setting lotion anywhere (and tips Canucks?) so perhaps that's my problem.

Any words of wisdom?

No real help for controlling frizz (except to use a lot of conditioner when washing and hairspray when styling... that's all I do, though my hair's quite naturally lank) but your hair and makeup looks so gorgeous here!! Great job!

A bit of pomade can help tame the frizzies then hairspray. Or sometimes i just use a bit of serum then spray the hell out of my hair! You look so cute, love your hair and makeup too!

I second Miss Sofia's suggestion of pomade and hairspray - Alberto VO5 hairdressing (in the black/gold tube) works well for me to cut frizz on a daily basis for styling. In the shower, conditioning with super-moisturizing products that don't contain silicones along with frequent deep conditioning w/coconut oil (left on overnight) help greatly. The more moisture each hair shaft has, the less frizz you'll have to deal with once dry. Serums (usually have dimethicone or some other 'cone) can kill frizz during styling, but it's my understanding they aren't great to use during conditioning because they act like a barrier on the hair shaft and prevent or hinder the moisturizing properties of the conditioner from doing their job.

You're right Clabbergirl, i have naturally shiny hair which is my only saving grace hair wise i might add, and i do use a hair mask once a week, which also helps with the frizz. Although i do find rollers give me more frizz than pincurlers for some reason. I always find a bit of pomade or serum at the end of styling does the trick tho'.

Thanks for the tips all. I'm testing out different types of pomade & hairspray. It's not that bad, but it can get annoying (maybe it's my post-lunch cat naps messing up my hair...hmm). I do use end papers, so the ends aren't very hooky.

Thanks! I was actually considering going into makeup before journalism school; I've always loved it and find it really fun. I also love Kevin Aucoin's books and practically have them committed to memory.

When I lived in alberta I sometimes found setting lotion at winners, oddly enough, but most drug stores sell spray gels and I actually like those better! Your hair is lovely, btw!
