I love visiting this thread and seeing everyone's terrific hair.

I decided to focus on one every day style I could get down. It's taken a lot of work to get rolls down and the right side roll remains a challenge, but the effort has paid off. I've been wearing a variation on a theme most days for the past couple of weeks, with or without vintage-y clothes. Until today, I was doing this as an asymmetrical backward roll, but you don't get to see my stripe, so today, I tried the forward roll version.

This was a sponge roller set, rolled toward my face. my bangs were stand up pin curls. The brush out was minimal.

Wet set using magnetic rollers and plenty of setting lotion or gel. A larger diameter roller will give you the smoothness and hold you are seeking. Brush the heck out of it using a bristle brush (not boar bristle, use plastic bristle or the set will not hold)
As you brush it out (brush it tight flat to head until it begins to form finger looking waves) it will appear to flatten out at first, the more you brush it will eventually take shape and you will be able to push the curls into place with your fingers.
I have a question. I just got my middy cut to about 10 inches, and in a fresh pillow roller set it looks like this...

But that's too tight for my taste, and hot rollers are less convenient and don't hold. On the second day it looks perfect...

How do you think I might be able to get it to look like this from the start? I'm thinking of doubling up on pillow rollers, two to each curl.

So, for medical reasons I needed to cut my hair short. I used c-Dot's middy tutorial, and use a sponger roller set. This is a day two set.

I really really like it. I won't be looking forward to having to slowly grow it out or do without for a while, but I really like it now and can't wait until it's this length again. It's so little work compared to my old long hair- one minute to brush through it in the mornings and I am all set!

(That is my daughter, sheeplady jr., in the picture with me. It was our jeans day. :) )

I got my (dark auburn) hair dyed blonde last month and have been having all sorts of fun with styling! It's like a whole different species of hair.
