You can actually see the break where the pin curls changed direction. The front section was rolled counterclockwise toward my face and the rest clockwise.

Lovely!! Are you saying you rolled just the hair by your face counterclockwise and everything else everywhere clockwise?? I love the wave you've gotten! I need to figure out my brushing, I guess, to get something similar.

I'm very pleased! My hair was mostly too thick, that's why I got it cut, but I decided to go for it and get the middy. Excited to couple it with my Vintage Hairstyling book as well :D

@MissLaurieMarie What a cute set! Looks great on you.

I tried the middy tutorial by C-Dot and was pretty pleased with how my set turned out this morning:

Inspired by Lisa Freemont Street's 30's fake bob - and decided to pin the hair up on one side. Please keep in mind, this was taken after a looong day in the lab :) and I'm pants at taking pics using a mirror :)

This one shows a bit, how I pinned the curls

all right, well, I am still having huge difficulties in getting a set to brush out... at all. this is probably the best I've come out with yet:

I would like to be able to achieve a better wave at the front, but I think my bangs have to grow out more before this is possible -- my hairdresser had cut them REALLY far back into the crown because my hair is so thin, so they lay all funny on the side right now. But? Eh.

This was my hair yesterday.... I got the Vintage Hairstyling book the other day. I have a ball coming up with my boyfriend for 100 years of Naval Aviation I have been practicing different styles I was really pleased with how this one turned out. Just imagine a comb with crystals instead of plane one. What do you think should I wear my hair this way for the ball?

ZombieGirl & LandOLakesGal -- I think end papers might be the only thing I haven't tried! Perhaps I'll pop down to Sally's in search of some? Do they sell those there? Ha. Or I could improvise and just use toilet paper.

GrantFan -- That's lovely! Definitely wear it like that for the ball!
