Thank you ladies! :)

Clabbergirl, it was my right side. I'm still trying to learn how to set my hair, but I'll try and explain. I used little pink foam rollers, and I think I rolled my hair downwards. I had only done two rows of rollers parallel to each other along my head, so each section of my hair was only divided into two rollers (one for top section and one for lower). I'm not sure if I make any sense. I'm not the best at explaining, and I had just made up my own pattern. :)

Attemped Louise Brooks bob.

I have been getting my hair cut in a 1920's fashion for over a year now. This previous time (just a few days ago) I was going for a shingled look in the back. Instead they ended up shaving way too much off. Here is what it looks like in the back.

Please tell me your thoughts based on what you know of the 1920's bobs.

Thanks Clabbergirl! We did get stares. We were in a casino, so most everyone else was in sweats and t-shirts. It's kinda funny because I don't think we look all that dressed up! But apparently we were!

BoPeep... The only thing that could make it better is if that "Dean Martin" was really Don Draper and my friend wasn't in the picture! Hehehe

Shazz... Thank you. It was fun "playing dress up" for the evening.

Hey all! I'm new around here and I'm completely in awe of you guys and your amazing hair styles.

I feel like I'm constantly at war with my hair, it's kind of thick, naturally wavy and fairly long and it has a mind of it's own! A very wilful mind.

So, I was wondering if any of you guys have any tips about how to do pin curls in thick hair? I'd love to perfect that look, but my hair seems to conspire against me.

Thank you!!

You sound like you have hair like mine. I had given up on pincurls as my hair was just too thick. I started using perm rods instead years ago and now that is all I use. I either sleep in them, or set them with a bonnet dryer for at least an hour -- sometimes 3! Either way, I get the best results using them and no one is the wiser to the ways of achieving my "authentic" styles. :) Good luck!

Oooh, perm rods!! I will definitely give that a try, thank you so much. :) And I love your photo, you ladies look amazing, that's a Dean Martin impersonator in the middle, yes?!

And thanks, Rue, I will head on over to that thread now!

My hair is very thick and super straight. My hair will only take a pincurl if it's very small. However, a very small pincurl results in a very tight curl, which only looks good on shorter hair. I go through stages with length (short, then long, then back again). Once my hair starts to touch my shoulders, I have to give up on pincurls. Like LolitaHaze, I use perm rods but I also use magnetic rollers. It takes at least 12hrs for them to dry and my hair won't take a curl under the drier, air dry only. Yes, that means sleeping in them. It takes a while to get used to them and I have different pillows, depending on the size of the rollers that I use. I do use pincurls on the nights when I don't wash my hair, to keep the curl fresh in between washing.

Have you tried finishing the dryer set with 10-15mins of cold air? If I don't finish it off on the cold air setting my curls are a lot looser and don't hold as long. Try it with a cool blast and see if that doesn't help. :)

Rue... Thank you kindly! Not my normal era, but it was fun!

Snowdrop... Hopefully the perm rods will work their magick with you too! And how did you ever guess that is who he was?! We kept calling him Chachi because he looked more like Scott Baio than Dino! :D
