My latest antique

Here's my latest antique rifle, a Nepalese P1864 Snider-Enfield. This was part of the cache brought out of Nepal in 2003 by International Military Antiques and Atlanta Cutlery in 2003. I bought this at an auction, looking rather forlorn and in need of some tlc.




After a little restoration work, this is how it turned out:




What may look like rust on the barrel and receiver is actually the patina, as these rifles were not blued. This is the third Nepalese Snider in my collection, and perhaps the best shooter of the three. These are essentially hand-made unlicensed copies of the British P1864 Snider-Enfield, and a valuable piece Gurkha history. They're also a lot of fun to shoot.

Nice work there, looks pretty cool.

Understand they are celebrating on being 200 years old this year, as it was mentioned on the trooping the colour yesterday (the Queen's state birthday).

Probably BUT!.....it depends upon the mood of the BATFE at the time, who 'demilled' it and how it was done. I think semi-auto versions are available over here?.....anyone?

This is one I've wanted for a long time, and I just got it on Friday. It's a Taylor & Co. Model 1874 Sharps Sporting Rifle in .45-70. I'll be ordering a tang sight and front globe sight for it shortly.

Oh now that is nice, I wish there were a market big enough for someone to reproduce a late Victorian Brit. single shot stalker of some ilk.

I've owned a muzzle loader and they're not for me. However, those big, ol' BP cartridge guns just speak to my soul. I've never owned one and may not but the itch won't go away. I'm with Mike, though. I'd rather have a Brit styled one than a Sharps--though if one came along at the right price I could be tempted. Maybe some day I'll just work up a Ruger #1 in .450/400 and take it to Africa. I mean, I've already got the pith helmet . . .

That is high on my want list! Either 8X57 JRS or good old 45-70, since I have a lot of the later brass.
