Lots of color on those side plates! Your barrels look to be hot blued? If so, make sure the rib didn't come loose.

Minimal. The gun wieghs about 4 lbs.

Could not be much with that weight, plus the Walker was a large gun so easy to hold on too.

You also have to remember it's using black powder and percussion caps, so some pressure escapes back through the nipples,and out cylinder barrel gap.

I have never shot one of those, but have handled a couple of bp revolvers and find them very mild. I also have a 58 cal replica rifle, shooting about a 460 gr mini ball and it is mild in recoil.

I can load my 45-70 cartridges with black powder to similar load levels and it kicks much more than the percussion rifle. I think this is because of the closed completely sealed system of the cartridge rifle vs the more open system of the percussion.

It made sense for the Walker to be heavy. Though it was the most powerful BP revolver ever made, it wasn't designed as what we today would consider a sidearm. It was a dragoon weapon and normally carried in a pair on each side of the pommel. A pair of those in that caliber with that much powder behind it gave horse soldiers firepower like no one had ever seen. Pity the thing was so prone to kicking it's ejector lever out.

I guess at 4 pounds that would absorb the recoil very well. I have shot BP copies of the Remington 1860 in Cowboy Action shoots several years ago. The thing I remember the most is after I fired the 5th shot I had to wait a few seconds to see through the cloud of smoke.

I can relate to that, especially on a calm day, no breeze and very high humidity that's common here in the deep south.

She's a Beaut! I just wish I was back in the States for Christmas... Gun laws like they are here in Europe, the chances of my receiving a gun this year are in the -digits... I almost had the cops called on me when I asked the gun store owner if he sold handguns as well as the tactical sawed-off shotguns he had in his display... apparently those are still covered in the "hunting" license category :eeek: but a vintage revolver or semi-auto is considered "dangerous firepower" and must have a State Police license to BUY, let alone own and NEVER personal carry! :eusa_doh: :eeek:

I'm honestly looking forward to Florida, for the first time in my life!
