I was living in Florida last year (which is when I was looking) but most of the guns to be found in pawn shops were semi-autos from the '90s, and very few revolvers, especially Police type... I agree with checking the gun auction sites first for something specific. In FLA one of the big LE Dealers is Lou's http://www.louspolice.com/index.html . You could contact them and see if they have any used ones, but at this late date (Most agencies have been carrying Semi Autos for 15 + years) you would probably have better luck on the auction sites. Hope this helps.

Sorry about that 2 hats! I couldn't tell from the photo. Looked smaller to me. I bet that is a beast on both ends with factory loads!

Fitz, You just hardly ever run across those old Smith Heavy duty's any more. I like 'em! Austin Tx PD carried 'em for years!!!! Collectors have snatched 'em all up!!! A nice nickel (4" to boot) pre-war model came thru the shop last Spring. The other smith I work with snatched it up pretty quick!!!!

It is O.K. , yes it does have some kick to it, not something you would desire to shoot at a range for a number of rounds.

If I am not mistaken, some of the older heavy framed 38's were issued to Officers during the war?

Welcome to TFL Galahad! Nice collection, and I like that the SIG-Sauer holds it's place on the wall next to those beautiful 1911s! (SIG-Sauer p229 and ANY 1911 being my favourite handguns, followed quickly by a Model 29 S&W 4")

I think some where I have also observed a 30.06 pistol, one was a bolt action, but also a revolver. How a person can handle those sized caliber in a hand gun has to be a pain.

Now the .44 Mag, got to love it!

Thanks Skeet! I may take it out for just that! A friend of mine who owns the Antique Shop in Portage had showed it to me last week, and I came in yesterday to negotiate a price on it and was happy with how negotiation went.

I started hunting quail with a Charles Daly sxs(only in 20 guage) in the 1960's. Had alot of fun with that shotgun!

Thats a real nice shotgun! Funny, born and raised out West, I was told that any thing smaller then a 12 gauge was for sissies. Luckily, I have since meant a lot of people from the South and Mid West, and have seen the light, 16 gauge is a very versatile bore! It has been said that the West was not won by Winchester or Colt, but, by women with their double barrel shot guns. Bird shot for squirrels, round ball for dear, and buck shot for your two legged varments!

Side by sides are my favorite. I have a 12 gauge coach gun sitting next to my bed, in case of burglars. I've never had a 16 Gauge, but it's a bit of an obscure round as far as shotguns go. I'm dying to try it out!

Well it's according to what you're hunting. I suppose if I could have only one longarm it would be a 12 guage shotgun. They are so versatile. However...before I quit hunting(around 15 yrs ago)...I was hunting quail with a O/U and Remington 1100 both of 28 guage...and having probably more fun than ever.

thank you all for the suggestions, and I will keep looking through the websites (I know there are more listings online than at "reg'lar" stores) but I don't really like the idea of buying a gun sight unseen... except perhaps from a "Lounger" (and then I'd feel bad to take such a valuable piece of history from them for the price range I need)
Hence the asking if there were actual STORES that carried police trade-ins... I guess I'll just have to check all of them and keep my eyes peeled... [huh]

If anyone finds one in Florida, send me a PM? Thank you all for your input though, I still like discussing them even when I can't find them.

I've recently been thinking more and more of the model 28 / Highway Patrol.

(or it's modern copy, the S&W 687. I'd switch the rubber grips on the 687 to a more traditional set, but it may be that I find one for cheaper than a used vintage piece.)

So I researched it more, and I think it's even replacing (rather "rising above" on the list) the Model 29 on my list of "like" guns... I still like the 29, but the 28 is more my "cup á tea", so to speak...

I don't believe so, but I'm no expert. The S&W Victory model (M&P) was issued to Navy and Marine pilots in WWII but I'm not aware of the military purchasing the larger framed Heavy Duty.

Of course the Military did buy the large frame S&W and Colt 1917 models for WWI but of course they were chambered for 45 acp.

By the way that hat is great but sadly I think it's a bit large.

Take a peek at some of the posts regarding what you can spray on a hat and do to shrink it up some. Most mine are larger but I use tissue to fit them better.

You may be right about the .45 cal, but still I think I recall some .38's being issued?

The 16 gauge won't be so much fun when you start buying the ammo. 12 and 20 are practically free compared to 16, 28 and .410.
