That's 'cause you never had to hump one all day. Those things were solid and reliable but heavy? Man! Now don't get me wrong. After twenty-nine years of dealing with the damned things, I whole-heartedly hate the M-16 and its offspring. But they sure were easier to carry . . .

I never had to "hump" one except for a couple of years drill in ROTC. As medical officers we would only be allowed firearms for defensive purposes only, to protect ourselves, our hospital or our patients, nothing else.

I have one M-1 and love it for its shootability and accuracy. M-16 types I have about 8, two Colts, the rest built by myself, three are in a semi wildcat caliber, 6.5 Grendel which I am really liking.

My problem is that if it goes bang, I generally like it. Currently tastes going to Swedish Mausers, Swiss Straight pull rifles, Ruger #1's, My favorite sporter being an old Husqvarna M 46, vintage 1929 in 9.3x57.

LOL ,I have the same sickness myself, but mine has more to do with handguns.

I can throw handguns into the mix also, have too many. Rifles are my first love, Shotties and handguns about the same.

Smith & Wesson Model 41's

I have couple of those 94 Winchester High grades, mine are acutally the 1894-1994 centennial model, I found new in a sporting goods store back in 2000. I purcased one then had second thoughts and had them hold it and my son picked it up on his way home from school. It does not have gold inlays but the same engraving pattern.

Next up was a couple of 1895 Winchesters in .405 Win. one a standard grade the other a high grade with coin finish and gold inlays. Dealer ordered one of each not knowing which he could get and got both, so I grabbed them.

M 41 S&W is best shooting 22 pistol I have ever had, again mine is not fancy, but has the 7 &something barrel. I later picked up one of the factory option field barrels from Gil Hebard guns while they had it cataloged. I think it is 5", basically the long barrel cut off and a red ramp front sight installed.

I wish I could justify one of the naked kind.

I have managed a couple of hammer shotguns, both Husqvarna's, one a traditional style, the other one of the Lefacheaux types, that has a metal forearm that serves as an opening lever.

A Polish Radom with a twist:

Judging by the grips, I think he was fond of his girlfriend. I've seen my share of trench art grips, but these are pretty nice. Note the GI holster and British made mag pouch. It's kind of sad, we'll probably never know who was immortalized behind plexiglass. The picker that found this broke up the lot, I never got to see the rest.

It's a nice rig, something you don't see everyday.

Call!!!!! Yeah they used a lot of that clear plastic stuff in knife handles instead of leather disc. I believe it was easy to come by. There was an old Parker sxs 12 floating around the area gunshops here that belonged to one of the old time Game Warden's here. His "girlfriend" (dit local rancher lady) gave it to him. (Or it was vise versa, don't remember) ... Anyway had a clear lucite buttplate with a very risque 40's-ish pinup young lady, a la Vargas, behind the plastic!

I favor hammers on double rifles because you can cock them silently after stalking with them on half cock and very, very safe. I favor hammers on double shotguns 'cause they look cool!
