I had a similar M46 that I had rechambered to 9.3x63. It turned from a 'potato flinger' to a pocket rocket. That laid back Prince of Wales pistol grip must have been designed by a expatriate British stock maker because it made that old rifle the slickest running game rifle I've ever owned. I sold it to a friend up in Puget Sound who wanted an elk rifle.

Darne's are under-appreciated, IMO. They have immense camming action and in the days before plastic shotshells, would chamber a moisture swollen round in S.E. Asia better than any other design. They are also reputed to be the fastest handling doubles around. Do you find that to be the case?

The one I had the opportunity to hunt with was deadly on dove!!!!! Handled beautifully!!!! A lot better than my Husqvarna 610 (well duh!). I always wanted to shoot one of the models that had the extra round mag under each barrel! But I suppose you really couldn't use it for migratory birds as it essentially wasn't "plugged" to three rounds!

The Darne does have a very strong camming action, and I had also read that comment about it popularity in SE Asia, probably also because Vietnam was a French colony up until the mid 50's. I have not hunted with it but on clay birds it is very fast. It just handles well and is so light weight, just under 5 1/2 lbs. The stock is cast off for a right handed shooter,so you eye lines up down the barrels easily. The triggers are even sculpted and angled for a right handed person.

I like the Prince of Wales grip on the 46 Husky. The stock makers there knew what they were doing as the comb is narrow and offset for again a right handed shooter. It makes my eye line up almost perfectly with the express type sights. This gun is not drilled and tapped for a scope and will remain unaltered.

For the Swiss, my model 1911 beats out the K-31. I replaced the military rear with a fully adjustable Furter sight, and on one occasion out shot a gentleman using a 300 Win mag Weatherby accumark with a big Ziess scope. I will concede that he had been sick and was a bit shakey, but I still thought that was doing pretty good.

This is a W. J. Jeffery & Sons Sidelock Ejector in 12 ga. It has a serial number 20XXX which puts it manufactured around 1904. Tomorrow or Thursday she will be lovingly carried up to Azusa and fitted to me. This may require a touch of stock bending and a new Silvers style butt pad, just to keep her in character. She carries a number '1' on the rib indicating that she was one of a pair. If any of our UK members know of one like this with a '2' on the rib, would you be so kind as to let me know? I'd love to have them together again.

My S&W 38. Special

Got one that is similar, exceptions being a slightly heavier ribbed barrel with ramped front sight and an adjustable rear. Mine is a K-38, the target model, and it has a matching model in 22 LR, a K-22. The did make one in 32 , a K-32 which I wish I had to complete a trio, but in 40 years of casual looking have not come across one.

The Smith & Wesson Military and Police (later re-named the Model 10) is a superb revolver. Probably the most famous Smith & Wesson M&P revolver is that which belonged to none other than Hermann Goering (serial number 642357), and was handed over to the Americans when he surrendered on May 7, 1945. It is currently at the United States Military Academy museum at West Point, if you happen to be in the neighborhood.
