I have a few Distinctive Insginia (DI) aka Distinctive UNIT Insignia (DUIs) in my collection:

From left to right they are: (1) RAF rondel (use unknown); (2) 57th Fighter Group (after they relocated to Alaska); (3) 56th Fighter Group (Zemke's Wolfpack!); (4) Unknown (bought these JUST because of the motto!); and (5) Unknown (I have a LOT of Viking friends in Iceland!).

Anyone recognize 4 or 5? Also, can anyone tell me where the RAF item might have been worn?

Have one, looking for a second...

Dang it, ZF, I've been looking for 56th DIs for eons...never seen ONE.

Wingnut: I only have one 56th DI, they ARE very scarce. My example is a screw-back, made by Meyer. I have been thinking about getting some reproductions made with the "Cave Tronitrum" motto (Beware the Thunderbolt!) and also some of the original designs from the 57th FG:

Kind of an old thread, I realize, but I am on the hunt for a DI from March Field, circa 1930-1940, and I'm hoping someone may have one or know where I might pick one up. Here's a list of some of units I am looking for, and the dates they were at March:

- General Headquarters (GHQ) Air Force, 1 March 1935 - 31 March 1941
- 13th School Group, 31 July 1927 - 30 April 1931
- 7th Bombardment Group, 29 October 1931 - 4 December 1934
- 17th Pursuit (Later Bombardment) Group, 15 July 1931 - 24 June 1940
- 19th Bombardment Group, 25 October 1935 - 4 June 1941

I'd like a screw back, if I can find one, preferably one from the 7th Bombardment Group or the 19th, but a GHQ DI would work equally well.

Here's an image of the 7th Bomb Group patch, and a smaller one of the DI:

Anyone know of a source for these, repro or original?
