There were a few really bad falls in the 90s here,so lifts aren't allowed at the majority of clubs. Should you injure yourself the club may be held liable, unless you signed a release form and even those aren't foolproof.
I had a friend get dropped and broke her jaw, injured her neck and back, very bad fall.Years later she's still living with some pain.
I got dropped and broke my tailbone, not an injury that most people take seriously, but I can tell you it's not comfortable sitting down for at least 6 weeks.lol

Aw, your poor little tailbone! Did you get tired of the same lame jokes about it all the time?
Yeah, most places here won't allow tricks unless it's a swing jam. The floors are usually way too crowded for that. Some moves that I wouldn't consider aerials do break the Four On The Floor rule. Even the experienced, trained dancers who know what they're doing can have an accident. No venue wants to be responsible for that.

Thanks Sally! What a sweet compliment! :D That was actually taken this April, the week of my daughter's 15th birthday.

Ruby and Benny- Thank you, too, for the compliments. I love dancing with Root. He's so much fun. And he's always vintage to the nines. You know, he often does have a bit of the Jimmy Stewart thing going. My Navy pants are 40's era and I just I love 'em. I found them in a thrift store for $2. I was thrilled when I got home and they fit well. They're great for outdoor evening events, too. Nice and warm.

On the subject of aerials, most clubs here are also limit them to jam circles and performances. A friend of ours, a teacher, broke her neck in 5 places a few years ago. Miraculously, she's fine now, back dancing and teaching. Shows that even for an experienced dancer with a long-time, trusted partner, aerials can be really dangerous. Here's her link to the hospital tale, it's at the bottom of the page. http://rustyfrank.com/photoalbum.htm
I've been lucky to have a regular partner for them for about 3 years. But we both make sure we're feeling 100% confortable before doing them (which is usually in performance) or resort to a plan B. So far, my worst injuries have been having my ankle stepped on while prepping for an aerial, and getting clocked in the jaw by my other partner Kirk. I think they took it harder than I did. They apologized for ages. Ruby I'm glad you're okay. Ouch!

Oh yeah, Ruby, do you ever see Frank? He's supposed to be out here for Hootenanny. Are you guys coming out for it?

Hello All,

Just to get you in the know... I have added a thread about Camp Hollywood to the events category. I have not been there in person yet, but will be this summer! I can't wait. Anyway, the thread is to help arrange a Fedora Lounge event or informal meeting for who ever will be in the area. I am going to set up air fare and lodging but I am not sure about the lodging part yet.

I was considering visiting my sister in Vegas on the way back to NY. I also might visit my brother and his family who are just about to move to Springfield, MO. This will be an interesting trip.

Anyway I think it would be swell if some of the members could get together to go shopping or to see the sites.

Ciao.;)

It certainly does! I love the tie he is wearing, too.

Trickeration, your outfit is great as well! I just picked up a pair of sailor pants the other day, but have yet to wear them out on the dance floor :)

Love the dress, Rubyredlocks—too cute!

Sally, one of our own very talented local dancers and instructors, Janet, injured her knee pretty badly performing an aerial during a performance. She was pretty devastated, as she could not dance for a very long time (and dancing was her life), and she still has to wear a brace.

Yes, I know, that's so sad. Janet is just the cutest little thing.

My husband and I don't have a whole lot of photos of us dancing, but here's a good one from our wedding -- lindy hop sure looks funny in evening clothes! My pastor took this picture.

Also, from Matt Deckard's first post:

I'm the one dancing with Matt (in the blue skirt, sticking my butt out!) and my husband's in the background (wearing a tan jacket). That picture was taken before we even started dating!
