I've had this sitting at home for a few months without finding the right opportunity to wear it (until last weekend):

Kilgour-6_zpsfd251582.jpg

It was made in the 1950s by the Savile Row tailor Kilgour, French & Stanbury. I'm not certain of the date since the stitching on the late has obscured the final number. At first I thought it said 1950, but the cut would suggest 1956 or, more likely, 1958.

great suit TT. the date looks like an 8 compared to the previous 6. are the trousers narrower at the hem than the usual 40s 10.5" - 11" ?

i hope you get some wear out of it. i have a 40s navy chalkstripe DB which i never wear.

HBK: Yes, the trouser bottoms are about 9 inches. I don't normally like trousers to be that narrow (I've spent my life being self conscious about having big feet, despite then not actually being big).

Even though the style is slightly later than I prefer, it fits really well and is incredibly comfortable. Thus, I feel really good wearing it.

Which is all that really matters.

P.S. I went away for a friend's 50th birthday party. As I was getting dressed I discovered I'd forgotten to pack a pocket square. I cursed myself until I realised that i'd bought a Tootal cravat in a second hand shop - one impromptu pocket square!

They look like they're in great condition. Like they've just come from the presser and are waiting to be picked up.

Yes. I don't normally like db suits, but this one is very nice, straddling a balance between flamboyant and sober.
I prefer the four button to the six button arrangement.

Here's a shot from yesterday taken by a mate 'at the local' of me wearing my 1950's-60's Mairi MacIntyre of Oban and Fort William, Scotland.... trousers are much fuller than suggested.

I can see the similarity. It looked like a higher button stance because of the pesperctive of Fastunis pictures. In the screen grabs the lapel looks looong.
Let's see how it will look on me.
